Old Silent

A beautiful little cabin surrounded by nature, very cosy and thoughtfully furnished. The host was exceptionally friendly and helpful. I particularly loved the outdoor space with the gas barbecue and firepit – sitting by a fire in the evening, listening to the wind in the trees, was wonderful. If you know what kind of place you are booking and enjoy a little adventure, this is a very special place to stay.

Nothing really. Just be aware that the facilities are genuinely rustic: there is an outdoor shower and a proper old-fashioned pit toilet. That is part of the experience rather than a criticism, but it is worth knowing beforehand. One practical tip: bring a torch, especially for nighttime trips to the toilet!

Es una cabaña auténtico en medio en un entorno privilegiado. Dispone de cama y aseo (en el exterior, importante). La ducha también es al aire libre y nos pareció chulísima, pero debes tenerlo en cuenta también. Dentro tienes nevera, una cama cómoda y artículos de cortesía (café, sal…). Fuera tienes una barbacoa y una candela (fue absolutamente genial ver el atardecer y la noche a la luz de la candela). Tiene parking privado en la misma cabaña y servicio de préstamo de bicis (aunque solo tiene dos y las comparte con otra cabaña) y de barco. Fueron muy amables con nosotras.

Tienen que mejorar los muebles de exterior. Es cierto que nos trajo un par de sillas nuevas, pero se espera algo más cómodo que una silla para disfrutar del jardín. La luz también se puede mejorar, no se encendieron las de la parcela y la luz del baño no permite ver bien, tuve que tirar de linterna.

This is a tricky property to review. You basically have to know what you're booking. It's basically a historic hut in the woods that's been semi-modernized to be a near-camping experience that's likely to appeal to foreigners more than Estonians (who will probably prefer more comfort in their vacation cottage). The interior of the cabin is fine: in warmer weather, the temperature is likely to be reasonably comfortable (there is heat if you need it) and your basic lodging needs will be met. The bed is fine. There is electricity, a small dining table, a small refrigerator, a kettle and coffee maker, and some plates and silverware. But you have to go outside to the back of the cabin for a sink, shower (with heated water) and an outhouse. Obviously, this isn't particularly comfortable or convenient, but in good weather it's fine for a night. There is a gas grill outside, which is kind of a lifesaver, because you can bring some food with you and make something for breakfast and dinner. A good supermarket is less than 10 minutes away, although nearby restaurants are scarce with limited hours. The location is perfect for enjoying the scenic and lightly populated northern Estonian coast, which is probably the most enjoyable region of Estonia for foreigners in summer. So I highly recommend a visit to the area, and it's your choice if you want to atmospherically "rough it" a bit here.

While a "cabin in the woods" may sound romantic, this property isn't that well set up to actually enjoy the outdoors. There are just a couple of uncomfortable wooden chairs on the small porch, and no place to eat outside. You probably won't spend that much time outdoors there. I suspect bugs could be a problem (we had only a modest problem), but some comfortable outdoor furniture would improve the experience.
