About this house rental
“Darßer Strandgut” is a family-run business. About 100 years ago, our great-grandfather purchased this beautiful piece of land and had the Butzek House built on it. Just a few meters from the Baltic Sea and the “Ahrenshooper Holz” nature reserve, our historic Butzek House is located in the heart of the charming Baltic Sea resort of Ahrenshoop, which has become famous for its artists’ colony.
Walter Butzek, the son of a teacher, was born on February 10, 1886, in Laurahütte near Katowice. After earning his secondary school diploma, he pursued a career in construction and completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer. In 1908, he enrolled as a “non-degree student” at the Technical University of Stuttgart and studied architecture. Walter Butzek then moved to Güstrow in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 1912 and worked as a freelance architect. Until World War I, his work was characterized by a simplified Neo-Baroque style, which was typical of the progressive reform architecture of that era. Walter Butzek died on March 23, 1965, in Rostock.
