Cozy villa with beautiful views
We loved the open-air design of Matcha Villa, the many cozy sitting areas, comfy beds, and the dining table with stunning views over the rice fields. Having breakfast prepared for us each morning was such a treat, and with Ubud just a 10-minute drive away, we could dip into the buzz of town whenever we wanted and retreat back to peace and nature when we needed to. The villa had everything we needed, from cooking utensils and plates to ceiling fans. It’s one of 12 villas in a small eco-resort, each privately owned and looked after by a respectful and super-friendly local team. Any little request we had was handled quickly by the manager, Wayan. Some people mention the house being “dirty,” but honestly, this is the Balinese countryside — nature is part of the experience here. Even with daily cleaning, tiny creatures and the occasional leaf blowing in are just part of life in such a lush, tropical place. We had the gardener tidying the terrace twice a day, and the staff, who are from the nearby village, truly do their best to keep everything beautiful. The ladies who clean also offered balinese massages for a very reasonable price , it is highly recommended! If you’re into fitness, yoga, or dance classes, Titi Batu Club is just 5 minutes away. There are also plenty of great local warungs and restaurants nearby. All in all, Matcha Villa is the perfect spot to escape the tourist crowds while still being close enough to everything you might need. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a more authentic Balinese experience.

Magical stay !
We had such a magical stay at Matcha Home! It was the perfect spot to unwind, soak up nature, and get a taste of real Balinese village life. The villa sits in a small eco-resort with a gorgeous shared infinity pool that looks out over endless rice fields. The garden was stunning, and the sunsets from the pool were unforgettable and most of the time we even had it all to ourselves. The gentle sounds of nature and the view from the terrace made our daily meditation feel extra special. Just a short walk away, we loved watching the locals prepare offerings and decorate the village with traditional crafts. It made us feel truly welcomed and part of the community. We really enjoyed the open-air design without AC, it felt so much healthier and more refreshing than the usual air-conditioned rooms that often make us sick when traveling in Bali. The natural breeze and ceiling fans kept everything perfectly comfortable. The house itself felt alive with nature: little lizards, frogs, ants, butterflies, and even a tiny bird singing to us each morning. It was vibrant, real, and exactly the authentic Bali we were hoping for. The owner also connected us with Ratu, an amazing driver who was friendly, funny, and full of local knowledge. Thanks to him, we discovered the “real” Bali beyond the tourist paths. The staff was wonderful too , so kind and thoughtful, and the daily cleaning service made everything super easy. We honestly can’t wait to come back. This was hands-down our best stay in Bali.

A Hidden paradise among the rice paddies
We had an extraordinary stay at Matcha Home – it truly exceeded all our expectations. The villa was spotless, beautifully designed, and surrounded by breathtaking views, whether from the terrace or the serene shared pool. Set amidst lush rice fields, the property offers a sense of peace and privacy even though it’s part of a small, charming compound. We often had the pool all to ourselves, watching unforgettable sunsets in complete tranquility. The lovely ladies who took care of the villa even offered us wonderful massages right at home, which made our stay feel even more special. One of Bali’s most beautiful restaurants, Wedja, is just a five-minute drive away, and I loved being able to attend yoga classes nearby. Everything in central Ubud is within easy reach, yet the villa feels worlds away, surrounded by nature and calm. It’s worth mentioning that this is an open-style villa, so if you prefer a sealed-off city environment free of small creatures, this might not be for you. But for us, that connection with nature was exactly what we were looking for. We left the city behind and embraced the frogs, ants, and geckos – my children especially loved running barefoot and watching the lizards. The soothing sounds of nature at night and peaceful rice-field walks became some of our favorite memories. The host was exceptionally well-organized, sharing insider tips and planning amazing excursions for us. Beautiful waterfalls are just a short drive away, and the staff was always warm, welcoming, and ready to help. We visit Bali every year, but Matcha Home has become our absolute favorite place to stay. We only wish we could have stayed longer – it was a perfect experience in every way.

Achtung
