We were welcomed with goodies! And our children quickly got into a routine of going out in the little rowboat with their daddy in the mornings and in the evenings and swimming. We enjoyed the community pool and just as a family were able to wind down and relax. This was our second time at this cabin and we loved it!

This place was amazing. Took our 2 kids (3 and 5) for an end-of-summer vacation. The house is great-plenty of kids games to keep them entertained, and a nice bonus that the bunk bed also has a trundle bed since our kids are young enough we didn’t want to risk a bunk bed fall. The kids had a blast exploring the beach and finding lots of shells, and we brought an inflatable boat (the row boat on the property is nice too though!), and we loved seeing the curious seals out in the water! Our only complaint was that at low tide the beach isn’t great-not fun to play on and hard to reach the water even with the boat. But once we figured out the tide patterns it was all good! The deck is the prize gem-gorgeous views throughout the day but of course especially the sunset. Perfect timing for a bottle of wine after the kids go to bed. We would definitely come back, and with the mostly-enclosed fire pit area I think this house could be great in the winter too.

The Captain's Retreat was the perfect gathering place for our gang of four women who have been getting together for almost 40 years. We had everything we needed - a bed for each person, a well outfitted kitchen for cooking our gourmet meals, cozy chairs with views of the water (it was a super stormy weekend so we didn't do much beach walking), and plenty of games. Bedding and towels were fresh and clean, as was the bathroom, kitchen, and living areas. Nicely decorated with beach art and maps of the area. Thank you Lisa for this nice place!

We loved The Captain’s Retreat! Lisa, the owner, made the whole process smooth and easy. We didn’t meet in person, but she was very friendly via text. You can tell a lot of thought and care went into making this an inviting retreat. The beds are comfortable, the kitchen is fully equipped, there’s charcoal for the barbecue, and everything is very clean. There were plenty of towels, and then a whole other set of beach towels. The covered outdoor spaces are also great for hanging out. There are plentiful oysters on the beach at low tide – check with WDFW online for licensing and up-to-date safety info. The location is great for an escape. Bring kayaks if you have them – you can paddle to Hope Island. If you have a motor boat, there’s a free public boat launch less than half a mile away. Lake Cushman is a 45-minute drive, and it is beautiful and great for swimming. We plan to return next summer.

Kitchen was very well equipped. Beds were all firm and comfortable. Lower deck near beach was spectacular with beautiful view of Shelton. Tons of games and books. What a great place to spend a relaxing family weekend. Thank you Lisa.

The house was nicely stocked with items for convenience. Lots of games and books to pass the time. It was a record breaking heat day one day and the AC kept us all cool. The covered patio with a gas fire pit was perfect to sit by and enjoy the evening and views. The neighborhood was very quiet and made for some nice short dog walks.

Great waterfront location across the bay from Shelton (20 min drive). Neighborhood was quiet and hardly saw any neighbors. Well stocked kitchen (pots, pans, blender, coffee maker, slow cooker) and pantry basics, along with a Weber charcoal kettle grill outside. Propane outdoor fireplace was also a great place to enjoy an evening. We did not get to harvest any shellfish from the beach due to WDFW closures, but definitely saw oysters in the soft muddy bottom at low tide. Small rowboat for two people available for small excursions in to the water. Highlight of the trip was enjoying oysters and clams purchased at Taylor Shellfish on the deck overlooking the bay as the sunset over the horizon. Lisa was readily available and helped with any issues we had.
