The Neighborhood:

Located in Dorset and just down the road from the shops and restaurants of Manchester, and 11 miles to Bromley and 22 miles to Stratton Mountain ski areas. Dorset is a four-season destination offering high-end dining, boutiques, year-round outdoor activities, swimming holes and hikes galore, and a vibrant arts and culture scene. Here’s just a brief selection of what’s available to you:

- 0.5 miles from H.N. Williams General Store, offering grocery staples, wine, coffee bar, wines, sandwich counter (don’t miss their breakfast sandwiches!), and gourmet food to-go. Great place to grab food for a picnic. It also hosts the Dorset Farmer’s Market on Sundays, one of the top-rated farmers markets in the area.

- 0.7 miles from the Dorset Quarry, a famous local swimming hole that was the source for the marble for the New York Public Library, the Met, and several Harvard buildings.

- Just down the road (~1 mile) from downtown Dorset, including the Barrows House, Dorset Union Store (homemade pies, sandwiches, to-go foods, wines, coffee, and local specialties), Dorset Inn, and the Dorset Playhouse.

- Just down the road (~8 minute drive) from downtown Manchester, including the Northshire Bookstore (don’t miss the third floor dedicated to children’s books and toys), and numerous restaurants, ice cream places, breakfast spots, groceries, and shops and boutiques. Historic Manchester also has a number of high-end restaurants.

- 15 min to Emerald Lake State Park, with hiking and swimming for the whole family. Kayaks are usually available to rent.

- 5 min from Peace Street, a local swimming hole and wading spot that is the perfect place to cool off on a hot day.

- 5 min from North Meadow Farm, a local source for cheese, raw milk, ice cream, and petting zoo for kids.

- Convenient to 3 ski resorts: Bromley (18 min), Stratton (30 min), Okemo (45 min).

Getting Around:

Vehicle is recommended. You will need AWD to get up driveway in the winter - plowing will occur when there is more than 3” in snow.

Other Things to Note:

Notes & Disclaimers:

We are on a septic system, which means nothing other than septic-safe TP can be flushed (no sanitary products, flushable wipes, etc.).

The property is equipped with a doorbell camera at the front entrance and an additional camera inside the detached garage, which is used to confirm trash pick-ups on Wednesdays.

Wildlife: This is a home in a rural part of the country. You may see wildlife including deer, coyotes, foxes, and bears. Please be mindful of your surroundings and leaving out food and trash.

Weather: In the winter, there will be snow, ice, and occasional snowstorms. We recommend driving a vehicle with AWD or 4WD. Please drive with caution and be prepared with regards to the ability of your vehicle to drive in the snow. Tip: During winter and rainy weather, we ask that everyone enter through the side door on the lower level, as we do not have a space for coats/shoes on the upper level.

Power & Internet: This is a rural part of the country. You may lose power or internet during inclement weather. We do not issue refunds for loss of power or internet out of our control.

Air conditioning & Heating: The main floor is equipped with central air conditioning, available seasonally during late spring and summer. Heating is provided during the colder months (fall and winter), as needed based on seasonal conditions. Please do not leave doors or windows open when running the AC; this causes water to accumulate in the HVAC system and will very quickly cause ceiling leaks.

Pets: We’re happy to welcome your pup to the home, this home only allows dogs under 30 lbs. There’s a $150 fee + tax for the first dog and $50 + tax for each additional one. If you’re planning to bring more than one, please reach out to us before completing your booking so we can get everything set up for you. For everyone’s comfort, we kindly ask that dogs stay leashed outdoors and that you clean up after them. Please note that cats aren’t permitted due to allergy concerns. Any pet-related damages may result in additional charges.

Absolutely no smoking, vaping, or use of marijuana products. Use of these products will result in an additional $1500 cleaning fee.

Cancellation Policy: We cannot make any exceptions to our cancellation policy. Please consider traveler’s insurance.

This property is amazing: the grounds, the gardens and of course an exceptional, well equipped house. The architecture, the views and the many bedrooms and bathrooms made it so comfortable for our group of nine. The kitchen is well organized and has every convenience for cooking in.

This was a last minute booking as our original booking was canceled. It has been a very positive experience with communication, timely responses to questions, the property is immaculately clean, inviting with comfortable rooms. Kitchen well stocked and the outside property was beautiful. Unfortunately it rained so could not fully experience it. Definitely recommend

We rented the house for Thanksgiving and had a lovely time in Dorset. Also, the large “great room” was perfect for a family gathering, and had a wonderful fireplace for us to gather around. But overall, the house just didn’t seem like the person managing the rental thinks like a vacationer and cares about the full experience. For ex: The listing says it has 2 queens. Due to how expensive the house is, we had 2 families sharing the expense. 1 Queen was upstairs, off the kitchen with a full bath. And the other one was actually a full-sized bed and down in the dank basement with the kid rooms. There was a second primary bedroom with on that first level- but there was only a trundle bed in it. Odd.Another thing that was a big issue was the smell of sewage in the basement. We arrived on Wednesday before Thanksgiving and I smelled it immediately. The management service’s contractor came by and poured bleach down the drain and said to contact him the next day if that didn’t help. That didn’t help. Now it just smelled like sewage mixed with bleach. And keep in mind that this is the level where the majority of us are sleeping. I didn’t call the next day because it was Thanksgiving and I just didn’t want to ruin a holiday and make someone pump a sewage system. I actually gave this feedback to the mgt co first and expected them to update the site with bed size or offer some refund for our sewage experience. But after 2 weeks that never happened. Hoping this helps others.
