About this house rental
Casa Alegre is a 3-bedroom, 3.5 bath 3 level house that sits on the beautiful black sand beach of Playa Junquillal. Surrounded by lush green gardens. You arrive at the Mexican tile and slate winding stairs that bring you to the main house. This floor has 180-degree views of the Ocean. The fully equipped kitchen has a stainless-steel refrigerator, oven, cook top and dishwasher. The laundry room is located behind the kitchen and there is also a ½ bath on this floor. The main house has 3 ceiling fans, flat screen Tv with cable service and fiber optics WiFi service. The oversized windows of the main living area allow for the breeze and sounds of the Ocean to fill the room. There are lounge chairs and a couch in the living area and a dining table for 6, all with Ocean views. Should you require the use of the air conditioner, this area can be closed off with accordion glass doors for complete comfort. The master bedroom with a king size bed is on this floor and also has Ocean views with a private balcony with a bistro set to enjoy your morning coffee. The master bedroom has a ceiling fan, closet, private full bath with shower stall and air conditioning.
Leaving the main house there is another set of Mexican tile and slate stairs that lead to the 3rd floor sundeck. Enjoy the jacuzzi tub while sipping on a cocktail watching the sunset. Great area for sunbathing or to start your morning with Yoga and meditation.
The swimming pool area is at ground level between the back of the house and the Ocean. Here you can enjoy the gas grill and picnic table with seating for 6. The 2 separate guest rooms are pool side and each have its own private entrance. Sliding glass doors with screens allow you to listen to the Ocean waves crashing and all the sounds that nature has to offer. Each guest bedroom has private bathrooms with shower stalls, closets, ceiling fans and air condition, for your comfort. As the guest bedrooms are pool side, it is NOT recommended for unsupervised children under the age of 12 to sleep here.
Between the pool and beach is a sandy area covered naturally Almond trees where you can take naps during the day or have a private massage. Sit out by our private Palapa Rancho where you can enjoy the Ocean under over, take long walks on our amazing black sand beach, maybe see turtles laying eggs or baby turtles hatching, maybe see a whale or 2 passing by or surf just a few steps north of Casa Alegre, the options are endless.
Casa Alegre is a great option for both a romantic get-away for 2 or a family holiday.

The property access is determined by the number of guests in the reservation:
- 1 to 2 guests: Access is limited to the upstairs rooms (kitchen, living area, master bedroom and upstairs bathrooms) and all outdoor areas.
If additional bedrooms are required, they can be booked for an extra $30.00 per night per person and room. Please contact us to make arrangements.
- 3 to 4 guests: Access includes the upstairs rooms (kitchen, living room, master bedroom and upstairs bathrooms), one downstairs bedroom with en-suite bathroom, and all outdoor areas.
If additional bedrooms are required, they can be booked for an extra $30.00 per night per person and room. Please contact us to make arrangements.

The house is wonderful just as the photos portray it! We have stayed in many VRBO’s all over the world and this is definitely one of the cleanest. The master bedroom is upstairs but not connected to the kitchen and living room area which is nice because if you’re traveling with early risers they can cook, make coffee, etc. without those in the master suite being disturbed. The other two bedrooms are downstairs and are accessed via an outside set of stairs. I was nervous about the size of the pool because I couldn’t quite tell from the photos exactly how large it was but it fit the four adults in our party no problem. The house is right on the beach and I think on the busiest beach day there were 12 people total (which included the 4 of us) on it. The house offers remarkable sunsets from either the beach or rooftop! Location is an easy drive from LIR with many restaurants and small supermarkets in the area. Tamarindo is a 55 minute drive from the house and Santa Cruz a 45 minute drive. This area has no large super markets so a drive to Santa Cruz might be necessary if you’re looking to do a big shop. Highly recommended any one traveling to this part of Costa Rica to stay at Casa Alegre!

Host was super nice and informative. The place is a glorious site and we can’t say enough about how beautiful, peaceful, private and relaxing our entire stay was! Every day was heavenly! The pool was perfect as the days got hotter by the minute! So refreshing to jump in, get cool and enjoy the sun…tropical sites and wonderful sounds of nature all around us! This place is an oasis and we definitely recommend it! Shower had nice pressure. AC units kept us cool at night. Sleeping was awesome to the sound of the constant waves. Stars were abundant at night. You definitely need a slightly bigger vehicle to get up and down the long and rough roads. A car would be a little difficult. Having a washer dryer available was really nice as we stayed 11 days in paradise! Kitchen had most everything we needed to make dinners…a few local grocery stores had what we wanted, including tequila.

The pictures on line are older, and do not reflect present conditions. We enjoyed our stay, great location. BUT, the place badly needs to be updated and is not well maintained. Just a lot of little things. The biggest problem was that the host was not truthful when asked about the hot tub. I specifically asked if it was working (because of earlier reviews) and was told it was working, it was not, probably has not worked in awhile, the pump motor is buried in sand. We loved the wildlife, howler monkeys in the morning, a family of raccoons, and the iguanas. Not the cleanest place, the floors were swept but not mopped. Don’t get me wrong, it’s very quaint and we enjoyed our stay, bit a lot of maintenance and updates need to be done, such as the shower head in the master bathroom.
