High in the Devon hills above the Taw/Torridge estuaries Webbery Manor Estate is an oasis of rural tranquillity. Steeped in history and with several noteworthy owners, Webbery Manor Estate was first mentioned in the Doomsday Book. It was given to Nicholas the Crossbowman, by a grateful William the Conqueror as a Saxon manor. In the 17th century it passed to the Lippincott family, one of whom set sail with the Mayflower flotilla to settle in America. In the 18th century, John Cutcliffe, the grandson of the owner, fought at the battle of Waterloo and was personally promoted by the Duke of Wellington.

Set in 45 acres of parkland and woods, with a variety of wild mushrooms and grazing sheep, deer, owls, ( tawny, barn and little ), pheasants, various, birds of prey and other wildlife are regularly sited. The delightful gardens have numerous specimen trees and banks of rhododendrons giving a spectacular spring display. Espaliered fruit trees and flowers are grown in 2 walled kitchens together with vegetables including Romanesco, Cavelo Nero, and Pink Fir Apple potatoes to name a few. A wide range of tomatoes are cultivated in 3 green houses and the produce from the gardens is complimentary subject to season and availability.

The lively market towns of Bideford and Appledore make an excellent day out, with weekly market and working harbour. With so many pubs and restaurants to choose from, in Instow, Bideford and Barnstaple, why not treat yourself to a meal out before heading home? Fishing and horse riding can be found within 5 miles. Shops and pubs 5 miles with RHS Rosemoor is 15 minutes drive away.

Electric vehicle charging is not permitted at the property.

Beautiful setting, very peaceful. We were made very welcome by the owners and enjoyed the gardens on the estate. The produce from the walled gardens was such a treat - and delicious! The cottage had everything we needed. Great location to be able to visit lots of different places in North Devon and even into Cornwall. Would recommend and would stay here again if we were holidaying again in this region.

Lovely cottage in a lovely location.

Lovely cottage, beautiful surroundings. Very clean and felt that the owners had gone to a lot of trouble to make the cottage feel safe under the current conditions. Very friendly owner - Kevin who called prior to departure to confirm all the arrangements. When arriving the postcode/satnav takes you to Stoney Cross, the estate is about a mile out of this village and has a very small sign - ok during the day but a bit tricky to see at night. Overall and in the Covid 19 world excellent. One major critisism, the kitchen lighting was very poor and insufficient and needs to be upgraded Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo
