In the early 1800s, William Wordsworth bought The Coach House (and White Moss House next door) for his son. Families will be delighted with the 1-acre of lawned private gardens with mature trees, which features an old quarry cave looming behind the house. With views over to Loughrigg Fell you really feel like you are in the heart of the Lake District. Red squirrel and deer are regular visitors to the gardens, and with large French doors in the living room you have the perfect spot to watch as they scurry by. For the days you just want to relax at the cottage, The Coach House is ideally equipped with large bedrooms, stylish bathrooms and a spacious open plan living area.

The popular White Moss walk starts just a couple of minutes’ stroll outside the front door, and before the walk you can take a quick peek at the waterfall found just outside the garden walls. Rydal Water and Grasmere Lake are both an easy stroll direct from the cottage.

The pretty village of Grasmere is just down the road, where you can explore Dove Cottage, famous as one of Wordsworth’s earlier homes where he and his sister spent 8 years of ‘plain living, but high thinking’. It was here he wrote his most famous work, ‘I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud’, and is now a fantastic museum about the writer. Grasmere also offers a selection of bars and restaurants, tea rooms and independent shops, where you can try some of the world famous Grasmere gingerbread. Slightly further afield, but not too far, explore Ambleside and Windermere, where you can enjoy steamer rides, the World of Beatrix Potter, rowing or swing amongst the treetops at Go Ape. Beach 22 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

We had a lovely 2 night stay in this fabulous cottage, set in it's own beautiful grounds with lots of wildlife. The cottage was comfortable and very clean, with lovely decoration throughout and had everything you needed. The location is central to explore all nearby towns in the Lake District and great for some beautiful walks/hikes. We will be booking again for a longer stay as price very reasonable for a 3 bedroom cottage.

This cottage has excellent facilities. It has been refurbished to a high standard. The location is excellent giving easy access to Ambleside, for shopping, and other wet weather activities, whilst being within reach of the northern and southern fells.

We were a party of 5 adults and were well accommodated in this bungalow, The three-bedrooms were even sized and both bathrooms were a good size. The open plan area meant the cooks felt included. All the appliances were of good quality, with a good-sized fridge freezer in the utility and a standard fridge in the kitchen. There were plenty of mugs/plates to enable the use of the dishwasher. We had sheep and red squirrels in the garden to add interest and we saw birds of prey and deer within walking distance. We started several walks from the property and was close to Ambleside where we had a good meal and went to the cinema. There is one step on the corridor, which I hadn't noticed when booking, which might be an issue if needing a level access property and there was some black mould build up in the shower unit, but it was all clean otherwise and the heating worked well and the light decore gave the property an open feeling. For a base in this area of the lakes- this property had a lot to offer.

This is in a great location for walking and with Grasmere and Ambleside in easy reach you don't need to use the car unless you wish to travel further afield. The cottage is well equipped and great for wildlife on your doorstep with abundant birds visiting thanks to the bird feeders and even red squirrels in the garden! A beautiful cottage in a beautiful setting.

We enjoyed our stay at the Coach House. It’s location was excellent with good walks from the door and it’s proximity to Grasmere and Ambleside. We really enjoyed watching (and feeding) the birds and red squirrels. We did think that the place could be cleaner and there is some damp in one of the bathrooms and a bedroom. Things that could be resolved to make this an excellent holiday experience.

Lovely cottage - a few minor extras in the kitchen could improve things, I.e. a measuring jug, more than 4 dishwasher tablets for a weeks stay! - but it was clean and in a lovely location.

A great cottage, in a great location. We hope to come and stay again.
