About this cottage rental

Relax and unwind in this 18th-century shepherd’s cottage, set next to two miles of golden sand, perfect for a relaxing retreat.. Enjoying a superb, secluded setting with outstanding bay views, this sympathetically extended, 18th-century shepherd’s cottage is set next to 2 miles of golden sand; a turquoise blue sea with twisting otters and bobbing seals; the Cuillins of Skye on the horizon, with mountains, moorlands, and forests behind.

Attractively and most comfortably refurbished, Cruary has its own garden for sitting out in. The bedrooms and conservatory offer far-reaching views across the sea and to the Isle of Skye. This fantastic property offers a cosy hideaway for all seasons.

The village of Applecross itself is home to a couple of great restaurants, including a multi-award-winning restaurant serving fresh seafood dishes, as well as a Post Office/local store.

This property is in an excellent location for outdoor pursuits including hill-walking, climbing, kayaking, paddle boarding and cycling. Fishing and golf are also both within driving distance.

To the north of the Applecross Peninsula and with the backdrop of the rugged mountains of Liathach and Beinn Eighe, is an area coming under the care of the National Trust, mostly made up of 750-million-year-old red Torridonian sandstone. A Countryside Centre at Torridon village describes the local wildlife and the Ranger Service offers guided hikes along the Liathach massif or more strenuous walks traversing Beinn Eighe. On past Kinlochewe, the Beinn Eighe Visitor Centre stands as the UK’s oldest wildlife sanctuary, with parts of it clad in Caledonian pinewood, which once covered the whole of the country. A delight for nature lovers, the area is home to deer, pine martens, wildcats, badgers, and foxes as well as buzzards, sea eagles and golden eagles, in addition to a fine selection of flora.. No amount of stars would be enough to give cruary the rating it deserves. I'm reluctant to tell you all about it because it is such a special place, everyone who wants to see Scotland should stay here but then it will be all booked up and we wouldn't be able to get in! You only have to read the visitors book to see how many people return year after year! We will do the same. We have been staying around the west coast for years but never have we had such a perfect place to relax and truly get away from it all. Cruary itself has everything and more. We took a toddler and an 86 year old and it had everything we needed to keep them safe and happy. The wildlife was amazing, stags were just starting the rutting season and you could hear them from inside, truly spectacular. Badgers and birds everyday but no pine marten which I did hope to see but there will be other times I'm sure. Beaches were great, walks were great, just looking out of the windows at the changing landscapes was amazing. Stars brilliant. Didn't want to leave. So if you're thinking of staying stop thinking and just book and go!

We have stayed at Cruary quite a few times over the years, each time bringing new friends to enjoy the cottage and the area. They never fail to be impressed by the house and its amenities- it is so comfortable and enjoyable to stay in. Whatever the weather, the views are spectacular and can be enjoyed from virtually every room, including the upstairs “ loo with the best view in the world”. This year the owners had made every effort to ensure guests felt safe and protected, and we really appreciated the extra work this must have entailed. We hope to return many times in the future.
