About this cottage rental

Achbeag is a traditional croft house in a remote wilderness that has been converted into a very comfortable holiday cottage. It retains many of its original features, with exposed stonework in the sitting room and a multi-fuel stove. It has one en-suite double bedroom and one twin bedroom. Broadband is included.
The cottage has been upgraded over the winter with fresh, comfy carpets throughout and with a new kitchen, which offers increased storage space for food, easier recycling, and a washer-dryer.

The small, remote village of Fearnmore is approximately 25 minutes' drive from Applecross village and 25 minutes' drive from Shielding. Achbeag has stunning views across Loch Torridon towards the Torridonian mountains and the Western Isles, with beautiful beaches nearby. The surrounding landscapes are breathtaking. Achbeag is a great base for exploring the Applecross peninsula, which offers a beautiful coastline, mountaineering, mountain-biking, sea kayaking, fishing, ancient woodlands with rare species of mosses and lichens, wildlife, and excellent local food.

Please note that the cottage is in a remote wilderness and as a result we do inevitably share it with wildlife from time to time. Bats roost in the attic in the summer. Bats and their habitats (including our house) are also protected under UK law, so we are not allowed to remove them- nor would we wish to: they do no harm and they eat the midges!

The property was beautiful. Rustic, no frills, perfect for the highlands. It’s a long way from anywhere so bring all you need. The kitchen has everything to prepare meals. Stay up to look into the sky. The stars are magical. It’s a treasure of a hideaway.

This quaint little cottage is perfect for anyone looking to escape the noise and enjoy the still beauty of the Scottish highlands. Surrounded by sweeping landscapes and enchanting wilderness, the area is an outdoor wonderland for land and sea adventurers alike. Achebeag cottage lies between Shieldag and Applecross, two little towns that offer kayaking and biking tours, and act as stopovers for many nature-loving excursionists. The Walled Garden Café at Applecross should not be missed, offering a delectable array of dishes made from everything they grow, it's also the starting point of 3 charming little walks. Turning up from Applecross is the historic Bealach na bà -- the steepest ascent of any road climb in the UK. More importantly, it boasts the most stunning views of the Applecross peninsula and Skye. Well worth the journey up. The cottage itself is plentiful -- equipped with everything you need, even firewood and coal...we didn't want for anything. We stayed a week and packed in all of our own food. The closest supermarket is an hour away and I've been told that Tesco delivers to Applecross, but we brought a week's worth of food and were fine. Alison is a brilliant host -- both friendly and responsive and gave us great tips on how to fill our days. If you want nothing else but to stay in a remote area and enjoy the quiet for a few days, weeks, or even months, Achbeag is the place. I will most definitely stay there again. Thank you, Alison!
