Lovely cottage in the heart of Holywell village. Ideal location for exploring Northumberland. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.

We stayed at Marley’s Retreat because we had some business to do in Newcastle. The cottage looks tiny from the outside, but once up the stairs we found a roomy but cosy front room and a luxurious master bedroom. The solemn wooden furniture in the big bedroom complimented the cottage/flat beautifully and is very classy as well as providing plenty of space for clothes. The bed is absolutely huge! I’m 5’10” and I touched neither the headboard nor footboard when I was sprawled out enjoying the space available to me. The kitchen, bathroom and second bedroom are somewhat ‘bijou’ but that didn’t stop us cooking, showering or making use of the second bedroom. The floors are not completely flat which I loved, as it was a nod to the age of the building and its historicity. Max had decorated the flat very tastefully, with Christmas mugs, mats (in the bathroom) and a delightful Nutcracker duvet set in the big bedroom, as well as a tree, lights and window stickers. All in all it was a lovely refuge and I’d like to buy the flat as is, let alone stay there again, which we certainly will if we’re ever up in Northumberland again!

Marley's retreat is a lovely snug apartment in a little village just outside Whitley Bay. The apartment is well catered and very dog friendly which was brilliant for us as a family of 4 plus 2 dogs. The village has 2 really lovely pubs, with good food options and the roaring open fire in the Old Fat Ox was very appreciated in the freezing temperatures we had when visiting. Max who owns the apartment and runs the shop just a few doors down was lovely and accomodating and happy to help with any information needed. Plus the broonie and tiffin were incredible!!!
