About this villa rental

Detached, charming old country house (230 sqm; June-September with pool) and 7000 sqm of green space all alone for just your family or group. An idyll 5 min walk from the village and 10 min drive from Siena. Shaded parking space, pets allowed.

Former Farm (partly attested as early as the 13th century) lovingly renovated in the old style (hand-baked bricks, chestnut beams, etc.) but with modern techniques of bio architecture, we have now invested in a green future and converted the villa to be completely 'green' in terms of energy: a photovoltaic system supplies the electricity, and a heat pump provides the heating. The photovoltaic panels do not disturb the beauty of the old house but are mounted on a pergola above the parking place, which also provides shade for the cars.
The villa is located on 'Rota', our own hill opposite the hill with the old village center of Sovicille (350 m as the crow flies), and promises complete peace and all comforts (large eat-in kitchen, living room, 6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, equipped for outdoor living terraces paved with cotto like the Piazza del Campo in Siena, greenery, forest, large pool (9.10x4.60m, 50m3 water); satellite TV, free WiFi internet access. The location of the property (7000 sqm) at the edge of the natural park 'La Montagnola' is so quiet that the deer sometimes venture into the meadow behind the house; rare birds, squirrels, etc. live between the ancient oak trees, but this idyll is only a 5-minute walk to the village and barely more than 10 minutes by car to Siena.
Infrastructure, excursions
In Sovicille you can find: grocery stores, bars, restaurants, bank, post office, pharmacy, church, household goods, children’s playground, often dancing on weekend; in the neighboring village (Rosia, 5km) supermarket; outskirts of Siena (9 km) shopping center. Good road connections: to Siena 9 km (10 minutes), to the romantic bathing spot on the Merse river 8 km.
The 'Montagnola Senese' Nature Park allows long hikes on excellent paths (maps in the house); The 'Via Francigena' can be reached quickly by car for a section-by-section hike; Bicycle tours through the Tuscan countryside are popular. Nearby bike rentals, riding stables; wine cellar; Olive oil.

Expressway connection Florence/Perugia/Grosseto 10 minutes away.
Regular bus connection Sovicille-Siena: bus ride approx. 20 minutes; 14 connections Monday - Saturday; 4 connections on Sunday. Stop accessible in 7 minutes on foot.
For excursions into the surrounding area, it is recommended to have your own means of transport (bicycle or car). An extensive collection of city, surrounding area, hiking and art guides is available in the house.
San Gimignano about 40 minutes by car.; Volterra approx. 1 hour; Florence approx. 1.15 h; Perugia approx. 1.30 h; Montalcino (Brunello wine) approx. 1 hour; Chianti hills start in about 20 minutes by car; Sea: Castiglione della Pescaia approx. 1.20 h.
World-famous Palio of Siena: On July 2nd and August 16th every year, Italy's most famous and oldest horse race takes place in Siena: the Palio. An event with a unique atmosphere and a tradition that dates back to the Middle Ages. Information at: www.ilpalio.org

We all really appreciated this tuscan Villa, big enough for a family of 10 or 12 (with many bathrooms!). Situated on the outskirt of the village, just next to the woods with a very nice garden and an easy to use barbecue. The owner and the landlady where very accomodating and easy to reach. Sienna is 20 minutes away and the tuscan countryside is beautiful.

The villa has a warm welcoming feeling, that clearly stems from it being a family home originally. Everything we needed was available to us including the pool, BBQ and out door eating area. The owner of the property, Bernhard, was so very helpful with assisting with taxi transport when we needed it as we chose not to hire a car. Simona was available to assist with waste disposal and pool cleaning. Sovicille, is a quite little village with all the amenities you require.for a relaxing holiday. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this villa. We would definitely stay again if we are back in Italy.. Lovely people.

Very good communication with the owner to set up kids items before we arrived and arrange a delicious homemade meal from Simona. Comfortable rooms with lots of space, the two floors of the house have separate external doors which was ideal for our two families staying at the property. Large outdoor table under shade, good size pool.

Spending time in a villa “Under the Tuscan Sun” was a dream come true. Our stay in Sovicille was beyond our expectations. It began with friendly, interesting communication with Bernhard, the villa owner. His information added to our anticipation of this vacation. He was readily available to answer any questions prior to our visit. We were warmly greeted by Simona, our local hostess. We were a party of 8…two couples and four friends. There was plenty of space, and a comfortable place for everyone with four bathrooms included. The villa was charming. We were instantly at home, enjoying meals around the large kitchen table as well as the comfortable eating area outdoors. The fact that one of our guests was an Italian chef, who likes to cook in his spare time, kept us eating at home almost every evening! The villa is located in the countryside on a small hill, just a short stroll into the picturesque village of Sovicille. This placed us in a central location to visit wonderful towns such as Siena, Volterra Montepulciano, San Gimignano and more. The people, location and accommodations could not have been better. It was difficult to leave and we all hope to return again. Thank you, Bernhard and Simona for being our gracious hosts!
