About this house rental
Welcome to Northwind, a one-of-a-kind custom oceanfront vacation home on the 4x4 beaches of Carova Beach, Northern Outer Banks, North Carolina. This 4-bedroom, 2,748 sq ft property sleeps 12 and offers something truly unique on the OBX — a main house plus a fully independent Villa, connected by a shared deck, giving your group the perfect blend of togetherness and privacy. A four-wheel-drive vehicle is required; the property sits approximately 7 miles up the 4x4 beach. Pool and hot tub open mid-May through late September.
Main House – Three Levels of Oceanfront Living
The main house spans three levels with a ground-level entrance. The second level features a sweeping oceanfront living space with a fully equipped kitchen, dining area seating 10, living room, laundry, and half bath. A king bedroom with private bath and deck access sits just off this level, along with a hot tub on the northeast deck. The third level offers an additional oceanfront lounge with sofa, TV, and deck with panoramic Atlantic views. Two bedrooms on this level feature a room with two queens and a room with a king and twin trundle, sharing a private half bath and access to a dedicated shower room.
The Villa – Private Suite
Connected to the main house by the second-level deck, the Villa is a fully independent 432 sq ft retreat with its own kitchenette, full bath, queen bed on the bottom floor (new!), and a loft queen bedroom. Perfect for a couple or small family who wants complete privacy while staying with the group.
Private Pool & Outdoor Spaces
The large private pool sits on the oceanside of the property, surrounded by ample seating. A boardwalk connects the house, pool, and outdoor shower — no sandy feet tracked inside. Both gas and charcoal grills are available. Two beach season passes included for beach parking.
Views & Setting
Crashing waves, soft ocean breezes, and blue Atlantic expanses greet you from every level of Northwind. The famous Corolla wild horses roam freely in this area of the Northern Outer Banks, and the star-filled night sky over the ocean is simply unforgettable.

This home was absolutely beautiful. The decor and colors are gorgeous. The access to the beach was great! We were expecting to maybe see horses once while we were there, but we saw them every single day from the house, many times right in the yard. The pool and hot tub were nice, as well as the outdoor shower. The decks are great for viewing the beach/ocean and the horses in the neighborhood. We can’t wait to go back!

Such a great house and location! Waking up every morning enjoying our coffee on the deck, seeing the beautiful ocean, and of course the daily horse visits made our trip so special! Laura is great, appreciate her professionalism and promptness when questions arose. Truly a magical spot!

Our family had the most memorable stay at Northwind in Carova, NC, and we would absolutely return again. This was our first time staying on a 4WD beach and while I was a little nervous about navigating it beforehand, the experience was far easier than I anticipated. In fact, driving in and out became one of the most unique parts of our trip, it gave us the sense of being in a hidden coastal retreat, far away from the bustle of everyday life.The location of the property was exactly as described, tucked away in an area without paved streets, which added to the privacy and peacefulness of the setting. We felt fortunate to be surrounded by such beauty and solitude. One of the highlights of our trip was seeing the wild horses every single day, often multiple times. Being able to observe them up close in their natural environment was incredible and it’s an experience we’ll always treasure.The home itself had a clean, minimalist aesthetic that I truly appreciated in a beach house. It was well maintained, fresh, and uncluttered, perfect for relaxing after long days outdoors. With a pool, hot tub, and the beach just steps away, we had everything we needed for a rejuvenating vacation. The property managers were communicative and helpful, which made the process seamless from start to finish.Beyond the property, we explored the surrounding Outer Banks and enjoyed a variety of activities. We visited the Currituck Beach Lighthouse, spent a day in Duck shopping and having lunch, and had a wonderful evening in Corolla. The 25-minute drive down the 4WD beach was shorter than expected, making it easy to access nearby towns while still feeling worlds away when we returned “home.”Overall, our stay at Northwind exceeded expectations.
