The Nene Nest, Kauai is a classic, sugar plantation- style cottage located on the always sunny West Side of Kauai. Just 152 steps from the ocean, it offers a true Hawaii feel.

Designed with a 'slow' pace in mind, our hope is that you enjoy every part of your stay; sipping coffee on the updated lanai in the mornings with a book in hand, or by relaxing on the beach surrounded by sunshine and ocean breezes on the beautiful garden isle of Kauai.

This charming authentic island cottage was featured in Tiny Homes Magazine and in the 'Love Shacks: Romantic cabin charmers, modern getaways and rustic retreats around the world' coffee table book and we can't wait for you to experience it!

THE SPACE:

Completely restored and remodeled, it features a new fully-equipped kitchen, new bath, two spacious bedrooms, comfortable living room, lanai, bedroom air conditioning and landscaped garden. Its nine and a half foot ceilings, giant airy windows, original crown moldings and wainscoting, original wood floors, and tropical ceiling fans in each room give you the feeling of 'paradise of old.'

THE AREA:

The home is in Kekaha, the sunniest area of Kauai boasting the longest white sand beach in the Hawaiian Islands. This is true Hawaii, away from the tourist-filled beaches and stores, where church services and grocery-store conversations are still heard in the Hawaiian language. Yet great restaurants, grocery, farmers market, shops, art galleries, and great Kauai outdoor activities are minutes away. Kekaha is at the doorway to Waimea Canyon, the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, famous for its hiking opportunities and vistas of the Napoli coastline.

The NeNe Nest was the most amazing little beach house just tucked back from the shore! It’s gorgeous Hawaiian foliage added to the character of this original plantation cottage and it was well stocked with kitchen and beach items to enhance your stay. Nearby so many good restaurants and activities on the south side of Kauai island, the house was in such a good location! We absolutely loved our stay and would 100% stay here again! Mahalo!

The Nene Nest was absolutely perfect! We had most of our meals at the Nest as it was perfect eating on the porch and ending the evening with a card game. We could head to the crowds of Poipu or play in the waves at a quiet beach near by. The canyon was a short drive and a must see! The little store in town has the best poke and everyone was incredibly friendly! We also stayed at a resort on the other side of the island - but preferred the privacy and comfort of this beautiful cottage. We will book again for our next visit! Thank you!!

The owners were extremely available for communication. They adapted to our needs very easily and actually retrieved the last item and mailed it back to me. The house was amazing and we loved every minute of our stay.

This home was exactly what we were looking for! Cute, clean, private, close to an awesome beach, great hosts, all the amenities we could need! There were a/c units for my daughter who enjoys to cool off, but individual units in the rooms so I could embrace and enjoy the fresh natural air!they had books, beach equipment, a Ukelele, and lesson book, and an outdoor shower for after the beach! The hosts were prompt in responding and very helpful! It is rare that I enjoy staying places longer than a few days but I could have stayed another week as it was so great!

Our family really enjoyed staying at the Nene Nest! It was extremely comfortable and charming. Our 10 year old son loved searching for lizards and toads in the yard. Listening to the ocean and birds made the experience feel magical and peaceful. We especially appreciated all the beach supplies provided and it made our beach days super easy. The communication with Melissa was fantastic! We had a small issue with an AC unit and it was resolved immediately! Don’t hesitate to book this property- do it now, you won’t regret it!

This was our second stay at the Nene Nest. We love everything about this house both inside and out! The inside is very clean, well stocked and comfortable. The yard is very private and quiet…love the outdoor shower and it is just a short walk to get to the beach for sunsets. What a way to end each day! Melissa gets an A for communication and we are very thankful that she and Kyle love sharing their beautiful home and town with us! Most definitely 5 stars!

We can really recommend the Nene Nest. We felt so comfortable that the only negative thing we can report is that we only booked 10 days (our mistake ;-)).The Nene Nest is exactly like in the pictures, but more beautiful. Melissa and Kyle have a great knack for decorating. The furniture is, unlike so often in other vacation rentals, high quality and carefully selected. The beds are fantastic. There are plenty of wardrobes and chests of drawers. The kitchen is large and very well equipped. The cottage is in a quiet area. Yes, the ubiquitous chickens start their “chatter” really early, to be honest we didn't hear it from the third night onwards.Thank you Melissa for letting us call the Nene Nest our home! Whenever we go back to Kauai, the Nene Nest is our first choice.

We (3 adults) had a fantastic stay in Kekaha! The home was perfect for our needs and very well-stocked. A 2-minute walk to the beach and a 5-minute drive to shops, restaurants, and stores in Waimea. The neighborhood is quiet (except for the roosters!) and the home is very private. The owners were very responsive (ahem, sponge delivery :-) and friendly. Check in/out was a breeze. We would definitely rent the Nene Nest again and I highly recommend you do as well.

We enjoyed this cute cottage. There were many small touches that we appreciated. We enjoyed the large spacious bedrooms with wonderful cross ventilation. The kitchen was adequate. We would have liked serving bowls and utensils. The proximity to the beach was great and we enjoyed the black sand. Wonderful sunsets. The proximity to our catamaran tour and Waimea Canyon was perfect. There is a lack of grocery stores and restaurants in Kekaha that we enjoyed on the north side of the island.

Everything was as described. It was a sweet little cottage hidden away from the street. It was well maintained and had everything we needed. Beach towels, beach chairs and boogie boards were a welcome addition. We would return.PS. Poke from the local Mini Mart (0.6 mile walk) lacked ambiance, but was delicious and fresh.

Wonderful place to get away from it all. Close to great hikes on Kokee and Waimea. Beach is a few minutes from house. You can’t swim because of rocky bottom but it is a wonderful spot to sit in a chair to take it all in and have a drink while watching the sun go down. Comfortable beds and private yard. Roosters let you know vocally that they are in the area and visit with the hens periodically but it doesn't take long to get used to them - it is part of what makes the place what it is. At night you can hear the ocean waves and in the morning and throughout the day there are beautiful birds flying in and out of the yard. The geckos are around and fun to watch! Great place to relax and be out of the crowds. Highly recommend!

We loved staying at Nene Nest and really enjoyed the West side of Kauai. It is close to a lot of hiking in the Waimea Canyon and to a wonderful scuba diving operation Explore Kauai. The neighborhood was quiet and not touristy at all. Nene Nest was extremely clean and very comfortable.

I can’t say enough good things about the Nene Nest! The property is adorable, well-maintained and full of thoughtfully designed touches; as is the surrounding private yard with beautiful flowers, banana trees and soft grass. The house had spacious rooms, comfortable beds, a well-equipped kitchen, beach supplies and toys for our kids! Melissa was a friendly and responsive host and you can tell she takes pride in sharing this special place with her guests- Thank you, Melissa! Kauai was a perfect vacation spot for our family with two small children, and it was a real treat to get to come back from our daily adventures to a private, comfortable bungalow that felt like home. We stayed at the Nene Nest to explore the hikes of Waimea Canyon and Koke’e State Park. The location was great- close to the trails and Waimea Town itself in case we wanted to go out and eat or get groceries. The house was comfortable and in a very quiet location. Steps to the beach for sunsets, short driving distance to swimmable beaches. If you’re looking for a good home base to explore this area, I highly recommend the Nene Nest.

Nene Nest exceeded my greatest expectation! This home is divine. Perfectly designed for comfort and privacy and 1-2 mins walking time to the ocean. Spacious bedrooms, living room and kitchen. Super clean. I felt very safe. I plan to rent this home again. Owners are responsive to inquiries. This really is a beautiful home nestled in the perfect area.

If you want a Hawaiian experience with your accommodations the Nene Nest is perfect! It’s tucked away in a quiet and beautifully landscaped spot. It was very nice inside…kitchen had everything you’d want, spacious bedrooms with comfortable beds, great living area, all nicely decorated . While close enough to the ocean to hear the waves (just around the corner) you have to drive a few minutes to the Kekaha Beach Park (which has perfect golden sand) for beach activities. Very close for visiting Waimea Canyon. The west side of Kauai is not a touristy area but restaurants in Kekaha and Waimea are not far. We mostly grilled and ate on site anyway. It has AC in the bedrooms only. Normally you wouldn’t need them but we hit an unusually rainy May and they were great to keep the humidity in check. Loved it and will come back if in the area again.

We had a great time on Kauai and the house was awesome! It has everything you need including beach towels and gear! We had a small issue and the owner was amazing and had it fixed immediately! We loved the house, the beds are comfy and the AC in the bedroom is awesome to get a little break from the heat. We all slept like babies! The famous Kauai roosters visited us every day!! LOL!! This side of the island had some really high surf when we were there so we didn't get to use the beach by the house but Salt Pond Beach just down the road is protected and was nice. We also went to Poipu beach and that was also more protected. We enjoyed our time on Kauai and at the Nene's Nest and look forward to another trip in the future. We would for sure stay here again.

We absolutely loved our stay at this little gem. Set in a local neighbourhood and with so much love for detail, it felt a little bit as though we would actually live here. The cottage itself is just beautiful, the decor on point and the kitchen very well equipped. It was so nice to have a beautiful garden to hang out as well.
