Hirsch Haus
This comfortable house was completely renovated to extremely high standards in 2016. Accommodation includes a spacious living room with a wood burning stove and a TV snug. The double height panoramic window gives direct access to the garden and offers spectacular mountain views. A new luxurious kitchen leads to the generous dining area. The house sleeps 10 with 3 large double bedrooms with balconies, 2 twin bedrooms, 2 shower rooms and 1 bathroom.
The Hirsch Haus is located in the village of Köstendorf in the Gail Valley, Carinthia. This southerly sunny region of Austria enjoys warm summers and plenty of snow in winter making it an excellent all year round holiday destination.
The house sits on the edge of a nature park with views across the Gailtal valley towards the Italian border. There are lovely walks from the house including a forest walk to Sankt Steben Church providing wonderful views from high above the village. Not to be missed nearby are the gentle alm to alm walks in the hanging summer pasture valley above Egger and Dellach with Alms that provide magnificent food and drink for walkers. There are also spectacular waterfalls at Garnitzenklamm with several walking routes and refreshment breaks.
In the area there is cycling for all abilities including the R3 Radweg (Cyclepath) running along the valley from Kotschach to Villach, as well as a 950km network of mountain bike trails for the adventurous visitor.
Wintersports include lots of skiing options, the nearest resorts are Nassfeld (110km of downhill skiing 20mins drive away), the picturesque Italian resort of Tarvisio (33km of downhill skiing and 55km of cross country, 30 mins drive away) On the Weissensee lake 25mins away by car is a huge groomed outdoor skating rink, and lakeside cross-country skiing.
In the summer, the nearby Presseggersee lake offers freshwater swimming, sunbathing areas and restaurants. Activities include sailing, windsurfing while the Erlebnis Fun Park gives a perfect day of outdoor fun for the kids.
There is shopping in the local town of Hermagor, and if you visit we recommend you drop into the Semmelrock Konditorei for Café and Vienese patisserie made on the premises. For serious city shopping, there is Villach (30 mins by car), and historic Italian cities of Udine and Pordenone (1.5 Hours by car), or Slovenian cultural history in Ljubljana (1.5 Hours by car).
