St. Pete Beach, the southernmost part of a chain of barrier islands along the Tampa Bay Sun Coast, features miles of pristine, white sandy beaches along the Gulf of Mexico. Formerly known as St. Petersburg Beach, St. Pete Beach offers a range of accommodations, from large-scale resorts to quaint, vintage Florida motels that evoke the charm of old Florida. The city was incorporated in 1957 when the Towns of Pass-a-Grille, Don CeSar, Belle Vista, St. Petersburg Beach, and parts of unincorporated Pinellas County came together to form the `City of St. Petersburg Beach.` In 1994, the name was shortened to `St. Pete Beach` to avoid confusion with the City of St. Petersburg on the mainland to the east.
Located just south of Treasure Island, St. Pete Beach is a short distance from the Pinellas County mainland, only 20 miles from Clearwater Beach, and within 30 miles of both St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport and Tampa International Airport. With year-round sunshine, abundant recreational activities, and a wide range of dining and shopping options, St. Pete Beach is one of the most desirable places to live and vacation.
