About this apartment rental
Our vacation rental “Küstenkoje” (formerly “Roter Sand”) was completely renovated following water damage at the start of the 2025 season, featuring a new bathroom, fresh paint, new flooring, and new, modern amenities. There are certainly still a few finishing touches needed here and there, but we’re doing everything we can to ensure our guests feel right at home.
The vacation rental is located on a quiet side street in Burhave. The town center, with its shops, bakery, and restaurants, is just a short walk away. The beach, the play barn, and the North Sea lagoon are also within walking distance.
Our vacation rental is on the first floor of the “Erika” guesthouse and can accommodate up to 5 people. The beds are distributed across two sleeping areas:
The living room features a modern fold-down bed (180/200) for two people, combined with a cozy sofa set. In a small, separate bedroom, there is a bunk bed that is 120 cm wide on the bottom and 90 cm wide on the top. If needed, three children, for example, can sleep here together. If needed, a portable travel crib with a mattress and a high chair are also available (at no additional cost). All sleeping areas have a TV and can be completely darkened with roller shades.
One or two small pets are also welcome (for a fee).
The heart of the apartment is the open-concept living/dining/kitchen area with a modern seating arrangement; wall art and the carefully chosen color scheme create a maritime atmosphere. Here, you can spend cozy moments with your loved ones. When the weather is nice, the large, sheltered terrace—complete with a beach chair and patio furniture—invites you to relax.
The kitchen is equipped with all standard appliances, including a microwave, and is fully stocked with everything you need to make your vacation the best time of the year. A small selection of vacation reading material and board games is available in the apartment. The vacation complex offers free, high-speed Wi-Fi.
A little highlight: right next to the house is a small (public) indoor swimming pool, which our guests can use free of charge when it’s open. The swimming pool is not part of the rental property; please check the on-site notices for opening hours and availability.
The vacation complex also features a sauna (for a fee; coin-operated machine). There is also a lounge (fireplace room) and a table tennis room.
The park-like outdoor area features several seating areas and barbecue spots, as well as a children’s playground. Bicycles can be stored under cover, and there is a dedicated “charging station” for e-bikes.
The apartment includes a private parking space right next to the house, marked E5. Please note that this vacation rental is strictly non-smoking!
Check-in is generally scheduled for 3:00 PM, and check-out should be by 10:00 AM. Depending on booking availability and prior arrangement, early check-ins and late check-outs may also be possible. Late check-ins in the evening may also be arranged if possible.
In addition to the room rate, the following costs apply (as of 2026):
- a one-time fee of €60.00 for final cleaning,
- €2.50 per person per night for utilities,
- up to €6.50 per pet per night, if applicable.
In addition, a guest fee (“tourist tax”) must be paid to the municipality of Butjadingen.
Please pay all additional fees before arrival, either by bank transfer or via PayPal. After booking, please refer to the booking confirmation for the necessary details.
Bed linens and towels can be added to your reservation for a fee and will be provided upon arrival.
Key pickup is conveniently handled via a key safe at the property.

Pros: private patio, good storage space, good location, pool, playground, games. Good for families.
Cons: need to bring your own bedding, including your own pillows(the ones they provide were dirty and stained), towels, and dish soap. Not as clean as it should have been for the high cleaning fee. No laundry facility but there's a clothes hanger outside.
Expect zero communication with the property manager after paying the additional 'Nebenkosten' charge . For us it was more than half of what we had initially paid for 4 nights. This was also the first time I booked a FEWO and not a hotel room, therefore, I wasn't expecting to received a payment request from the host before check-in. It also took a few tries to get a receipt for the second payment.
There was also no hairdryer in the apartment as stated. After looking in every nook and cranny in the entire apartment for a nonexistent hairdryer, and not receiving any response from the property manager, we contacted the owner and were just told that the previous guests must have misplaced it. I already had to go buy bedding and sheet covers from IKEA and didn't want to drive again to purchase a hair dryer too. After check out, we got a thank you message from the host for leaving the place 'tip top' and that they "found" the hair dryer.
If you stay only a short time, have kids, bring a few must have items with you, and don't mind to re-clean the place, then you should have a pleasant stay.
