About this cottage rental

Set alongside a village church, Rose Cottage is a delightful Grade II listed Cotswold stone property overlooking the surrounding commons and hills. Footpaths lead from your doorstep to spectacular viewpoints, and you are within walking distance of the village pub.

Sitting above the main road your first impression of Rose Cottage will not disappoint as you walk through the wooden garden gate to the front door. Decorated throughout in muted tones of calming green, the centrepiece of the living area is the wood-burning stove in a carved stone surround. This cosy area with its luxuriously soft sofa is made for putting your feet up and enjoying the views through the original leadwork windows. At the other end of this space is a dining table seating six beside a feature stone hearth. Small touches including retro-style radios in each room, beautiful curtains, soft furnishings, and Cotswold artwork bring this area together. In the well-equipped kitchen, you will find Emma Bridgewater and Denby Pottery crockery, making this cottage a little bit more special.

Set over three floors, the steep cottage stairs lead up to the king-size double and family bathroom on the first floor. With cushioned window seats this floor offers fabulous views to the South East. Continuing up the stairs are two more bedrooms, a twin and a double which look across to the church and its graveyard. Each room has its own characterful décor, one of which takes inspiration from the local Gifford Circus.

To the side of the cottage is a small lawned area separated from the gravelled front pathway by trelliswork. Flower beds and mini-manicured hedges add to the charming appeal of Rose Cottage.

Ground Floor

With two front doors, one enters into the kitchen with a wooden floor and the main door leads you into the open-plan living/dining room.

Open Plan Living/Dining Room:
This welcoming room with its wood-burning stove has been thoughtfully decorated with special finishing touches including a Marshall Bluetooth speaker, Stroud map artwork and eye-catching curtains. The soft navy sofa offers space to stretch out and watch TV or enjoy one of the books provided. A wooden dining table seats six so your group can enjoy meals together before retreating to a window seat with a glass of wine to take in the views.

Kitchen:
Finished with wooden worktops and tiles in a complimentary shade of green to the house décor, the kitchen has everything you could need. Matching glasses and crockery make setting the dining table a delight. You will also find a Nespresso coffee machine and a colour co-ordinated Roberts radio.

First Floor

The wide but steep carpeted stairs have a handrail and lead up to the first floor.

Bedroom One:
Looking across Selsley Common this king-size double bedroom is compact but comfortable with sumptuous bedding. Bedside tables and wall-mounted lights mean you can retreat at the end of the day with a cup of tea and your favourite book or radio show. Below the feature window is a comfortable space to relax while waiting for the family to get ready for the day.

Family Bathroom:
With a shower over the bath, toilet, sink unit with storage and heated towel rail the family bathroom is well-equipped. A window provides natural light so you can relax and create your own spa experience.

Second Floor

The steep stairs continue to the second floor with vertical grab rails to assist. At the top of the stairs is a quirky circus-style curtain hiding a storage space where you will find the cot. This floor has restricted headroom and sloped ceilings to the sides.

Bedroom Two:
Overlooking the church and its graveyard, the double bedroom is a hidden retreat. The panelled wall, a chest of drawers, a matching Roberts radio, and Gifford Circus themed additions come together to create a wonderfully cosy room. Wall light and shelf above the bed provide handy storage for smaller personal items. Opening the window, you can hear the church chime the passing of time, transporting you to the early years of cottage life in this area.

Bedroom Three:
Across the small landing is the final twin room with two metal single beds. Each has a bedside table and lighting and on the chest of drawers sits a Roberts radio. It is an ideal space for children.

Outside

The garden includes a lawned area looking across to the church and surrounding village and hills. You feel as though you are on top of the world standing at this viewpoint. Well-maintained hedging and gravelled front area complete the garden which is surrounded by a low perimeter wall. On-street parking can be found on the street directly below the cottage or on the passing main road.

A lovely cosy stay with old friends. A great dining table to sit around and enjoy a meal or glass of wine or two, although don’t bring too much food as the fridge is quite small. The garden is beautifully kept and the cottage has clearly been refurbished in the last year or two. We had a small problem with the shower which was very promptly resolved by the owner and there was true concern shown that it didn’t impact our stay, which it didn’t. We’d highly recommend a meal at the Woolpack in Slad and a wonder into Stroud for a coffee and to see the market.

We loved our stay and wish it could have been longer! Our host was so understanding, prompt in communication, we felt immediately at home upon arrival. We were able to locate the cottage just fine with clear check in directions - we did have to park up the street a fair ways. I will say that local delivery drivers (Deliveroo, etc) seemed to have difficulty locating the cottage despite us moving the place marker directly over the house on the map (I only say this for future guests to be prepared to perhaps flag down the delivery driver). Rose Cottage is in a beautiful spot with gorgeous views across a small valley and well connected for trails for walking and cycling. We especially loved walks through the Commons and found it to be a beautiful drive to surrounding villages and things to see. 100% would stay again!

It's cute. The garden is lovely and the owners have done what they can to make it comfortable. However, it is very musty with damp in the kitchen. This is during summer when it has not rained for weeks. We emptied ten liters a day from the kitchen dehumidifier. The steps to the upper level are very steep and one of the bedrooms is next door to the church and the all night bells. There were no fans and it was very hot. I slept on the couch downstairs. I wouldn’t rent again unless it was a couple

Arrived to find Rose Cottage as we'd expected to find it; clean, cosy and comfortable. Located next to Rodborough church it was nice and quiet with nice views and sunny aspect. The pub is only 3 minutes walk up the road, the Prince Albert, and is dog friendly with a great vibe. Rodborough Common is at the top of the hill and only 10 minutes walk from Rose Cottage, great for dog walking and some lovely views. A good base to discover the south Cotswolds.

My siblings and I had a lovely weekend in Rose Cottage on our annual get together. It's super clean and has some of the most comfortable beds we have slept in. The cottage is very tastefully furnished and well appointed with everything you need. The log burner (and basket of logs -thanks) made it all very cosy too. There is ample parking below the cottage or on the main road. Highlights nearby were the Saturday Market in Stroud (foodie heaven) and food at the nearby Old Fleece pub was exceptionally good. The church that is adjacent to the cottage is well worth a visit too. Great spot and we all thoroughly recommend it. Thanks!

Fabulous property. Needed to use What three words to find it so a little guidance on the location would be helpful. Inside it is cosy and everything was catered for in the house. Games to keep us amused, logs for the fire and ample towels and kitchen equipment. We sat in the garden on the supplied furniture with cushions. We needed to house our pet on the last day while we were out for lunch and they let us stay till 3.30 for no extra charge which was so kind. Thank you for making our weekend so lovely. Anita

The cottage is beautiful they even left a gift for our doggy! The garden is at the front of the property with beautiful views and a lovely church behind. Unfortunately the garden is not dog friendly, there is a 6 foot drop to the pavement below with no high wall. The dog can also enter the graveyard which meant she could go for other dogs passing, it was difficult to have kept her on the lead the whole stay. We also had 2 toddlers and the garden wall is very unsafe for them. Not the owners fault I should have thought to check. Lovely garden to sit in and a super Webber BBQ to use. Cottage has everything you could possibly need.
