About this house rental
Superior Sanctuary is a beautiful, updated and spacious townhome, offering 1800 sq ft. and 2 levels to unwind in comfort. This romantic lakeside home overlooks Lake Superior from atop a 25 foot cliff, offering gorgeous views from both levels, two large decks and a truly peaceful setting. A seasonal staircase (approx Memorial Day to Labor Day) provides access to a 600' shared pebble beach for agate hunting on one end of the property, with overlooks, majestic shoreline boulders and ledge rock on the other.
Enjoy the large, well-appointed full kitchen with its massive island, corian countertops and new(er) stainless steel appliances. Relax in the cozy recliners around the living room stone fireplace, watching the lake. Listen to the waves from the wonderful master bedroom ensuite, with its gas fireplace, large jacuzzi tub, private bathroom and deck. The charming second bedroom offers 2 twin beds, with another full bathroom across the hall. The main level den, with sliding glass doors, provides another private space for work and a sleep sofa. A third bathroom (half) is next to the den. Streaming TV options and 150+ DVD movies are offered, washer & dryer are next to the bedrooms, and the attached one-car garage provides additional convenience and space!
Located between Tofte and Lutsen, and only 20-25 minutes from Grand Marais, the central location provides the perfect base for enjoying all the North Shore has to offer! Beautiful State Parks, world-class hiking, the best skiing in the Midwest (both downhill skiing and cross country), biking (both paved trails and mountain biking), waterfalls, fishing and golf, as well as a variety of wonderful restaurants (7+), live music, shopping, grocery stores and the North Shore Winery are ALL within 5-10 minutes. The Gitchi Gami State Bike Trail runs across the driveway, making it easy to bike or walk for miles, including to the shops, beautiful shoreline and restaurants at Bluefin Bay (3 mi) or Lutsen Resort (4.5 mi), or to Temperance River State Park (5.5 mi).

Stayed in early August. The townhouse was lovely! Very comfortable, well-appointed and clean. Full kitchen was great and plenty of space for meals and hanging out. Even though it's near Hwy 61 you hear very little road noise, especially in the master bedroom. We slept with the sliding door open and all we could hear were the waves and the wind in the poplars (or maybe they're aspens?). Having easy access to a beautiful rock beach was one of our key draws, and the beach did not disappoint! We swam every day - water in early August was mid 60's - perfect Lake Superior swimming temp! Location was great for us - close to Lutsen, Superior Hiking Trail, Bike Trail, several mountain biking trails, and an easy drive to Grand Marais. The attached garage was a nice bonus to safely store bikes and other toys. And the Washer/Dryer in the unit was great. Responsive and communicative host.

Wonderful stay! Perfect alternative to the resorts nearby. Close proximity to our favorite hiking trails and restaurants along the north shore.
