Casa Caramelo offers a 1 bedroom/ 1 bathroom accommodation on the ground floor of the house. This rustic house is located in a quiet rural part of Madeira in Raposeira (Faja da Ovelha) in Calheta parish. Casa Caramelo is a 100 years old traditional Madeirian stone house, which used to be a local school building. It has been recently renovated and provides all modern comfort inside. Ground floor accommodation (approx. 40 sq.m. total area) is a totally separate unit of the house, with separate entrance and car parking, to provide maximum comfort and privacy. Since the owner of Casa Caramelo and her 2 dogs (very friendly and quiet German Shepherds called Enola and Eça) live upstairs, the guests will be sharing the garden area, where they can play with dogs or enjoy a quiet evening.
For the guest's comfort this accommodation is equipped with all the usual features, such as bed linen and towels, free Wi-Fi, TV, washing machine, etc. In winter months the guests are provided with dehumidifier, heater and warm blankets. Average temperature inside in winter is +18 C.
Casa Caramelo is very well located:
15 minutes drive to Calheta beach, supermarket Pingo Doce, ATM and marina with lots of restaurants
5 minutes drive to the nearest BP petrol station and small supermarket
10 minutes drive from the light house of Ponta do Pargo (and future golf course), where you can watch amazing sunsets
Levada (irrigation channels) between Prazeres and Ponta do Pargo is 5 minutes walk from the house.
Minimarket and snack bar Papagaio is in a walking distance of 200 meters.
The owner provides 24/7 support to the guests.

Irina was very accommodating and friendly. The property was in an ideal location if you are looking to be amongst nature and away from the hustle and bustle. Will be looking to stay again when i’m next in madeira.

What an amazing stay!!!! We loved staying at this very special place. From the warm welcome- the perfect size place, fantastic walks, the gorgeous countryside and views and the ease to go anywhere on the island- Casa Caramelo Rustic House was perfect!!!! We have had the most amazing experience here!!!! The Host ( Irina) is truly the best!!!! She was so helpful, kind and just a lovely person. We fell in love with her 2 beautiful , incredibly trained and super sweet dogs!! What a bonus to get a visit from them!!!. We loved this stay so much!! We will be back many , many more times!!!!

I recently stayed at this lovely one-bedroom property in Fajã da Ovelha, hosted by Irina, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I chose this spot for its location—it’s on the south coast, where the weather is generally better, and the sea views are stunning. It’s just a short stroll to the coast, and everything felt peaceful and off the beaten path.I came to Madeira for photography, and the location worked perfectly. Ponta do Pargo Lighthouse and Levada are within a 10min drive away, whilst most landmarks like Fanal Forest and the dramatic sea stacks of Ribeira da Janela are within 45mins. Irina was incredibly accommodating, too. My flight was delayed by two days, and she kindly adjusted my booking so I didn’t lose any time—no extra charge, just genuine hospitality.The apartment itself was spacious and cozy for a one-bed. The kitchen was well-equipped, with plenty of fridge space, a great oven, and a reliable gas hob—perfect for cooking after a long day of shooting. It felt like a home away from home.One of the highlights was Irina’s two Alsatians, Essa and Enola. They were friendly and well-behaved, adding to the warm, welcoming atmosphere. Irina herself was lovely—helpful and informative, but never intrusive.Overall, I can’t recommend this place enough. It’s a great base for exploring Madeira’s photography hotspots, and the hospitality is top-notch. I’d happily stay again!

Irina was amazing. The home was cozy and exactly what we expected. It was special to stay in a 100 year old school house. The neighborhood is near a Levada for a nice walk. It is close to Calheta which is a great place to swim and stroll.
