About this cottage rental

High Wallabarrow Farm Cottage is a comfortable and cosy cottage in a glorious, deeply rural setting, flanked by Wallabarrow Crag (1000ft) and natural open farmland to the front. Breathtaking views in all directions.

Attached to the main farmhouse, you'll have all the comforts you'd expect, including a fully equipped kitchen with a dining table and exposed wooden beams. A cosy living room with a door to the rear garden area and a small brook running through it is perfect for a BBQ or a few drinks after a day out exploring. If you don't fancy cooking, the Newfield Arms, a traditional pub offering great food and real ales, is just a 1.5mi walk away.

Also on the ground floor is a double bedroom and a bathroom with a shower. Upstairs is a triple bedroom that comprises a double bed and a single bed.

High Wallabarrow Farm is a traditional hilltop farm owned by the National Trust and home to tenant farmer Chris and his family, who farm Herdwick Sheep amongst other livestock. The farm is situated at the very end of a lane that runs alongside the River Duddon. Upon arrival to view the cottage, we were overwhelmed by the stunning scenery and the friendliness of Chris and his family, so you can be sure to receive a warm and friendly welcome too.

The location is perfect for walkers, with the Coniston Range Fells accessible from the door and the beautiful Duddon Valley to explore. Twenty minutes away is the village of Broughton-in-Furness, a historic village dating back to the 11th century with pubs, a restaurant, traditional butchers, greengrocers and a brilliant bakery that we can personally voucher for! Nature lovers will be spoilt with the area, as the farmland has one of the most extensive oak birch woodlands on its land, a Site of Special Scientific Interest with many bluebells in spring.

The many bridleways are superb for mountain bikers, with tracks leading up the fells or sticking to the level(ish) country lanes. Secure bike storage is available.
