The Copper Penny House is a restored miner's cabin from Madrid's mining heyday. The house is situated just steps away from all of the shops, galleries, restaurants and watering holes in the funky artist community of Madrid, yet it is private enough to relax on the wrap around deck and enjoy the vistas of the mountains or the night stars. The house has a full kitchen with stainless appliances and of course, a copper penny back splash. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishes, utensils, spices, oils, coffee, teas, creamers and everything you could possibly need for your culinary creations. The house sleeps four (PLEASE NOTE!!: the nightly rate is for 2 people, there is a charge of $25 per person per night for additional guests beyond two, so please type in accurate number of guests when you book, please!) The bedroom is on the second floor and has a queen size memory foam bed. Also on the second floor is a loft, perfect for reading, meditation or board games, (many of which are provided.) There is a full size sleeper sofa in the living room that sleeps two. The bathroom has a full tub/shower and a washer and dryer. Off of the living room is an enclosed sun porch, a perfect place to soak up the warmth with your morning cup of coffee or relax at the end of your day with a glass of wine. On the front porch take in the night skies. The wrap around deck takes you to the back porch where there is a picnic table and a gas BBQ grill to enjoy some cold beers and a burger. There is a very large fenced yard for your pups to play. Also there is a farm gate where you can pull your car into the driveway and park securely off the road and unload.
The Copper Penny House is the perfect location to base your New Mexico vacation, as it is only a half hour south of Santa Fe and 45 minutes north of Albuquerque. If you are motorcyclists like we are, you couldn't ask for a better locale. Madrid is situated on the Turquoise Trail, a scenic highway that begins just east of Albuquerque and winds its way through the high desert mountains, through Madrid and ending in Santa Fe.
We love our pets and for that reason we welcome your furry kids! Water and food dishes are provided as well as maybe a surprise treat!

What an amazing stay!! From booking, our hosts were so communicative & helpful. The home was beautiful, amazing art created by the hosts, & literally every. single. thing. you would need for a stay here; things like waffles in the freezer,books, body lotions, streaming subscriptions, doggy supplies and laundry soap. Our pup enjoyed her time outside and having a fully fenced yard was a huge plus. We loved watching the sunsets and cooking dinner together. Madrid was a very quiet (but beautiful) area. Keep in mind, some things are closed early in the week (Mon/Tues). My boyfriend and I (22) still enjoyed the laid back feel & taking quiet walks into town with our girl and exploring both Abq & SantaFe with a scenic drive to & from. We chose Madrid mostly because of it’s location in between both cities. Definitely stop by the coffee shop in town, it was delish! Just a note, if taking the back road to park inside the fence be aware of how rocky the terrain is. We drove in a manual civic making it just a tad trickier but still made it through! Also, no street lights but the stars do light up a beautiful night sky. Overall, 10/10 stay!

This was the most creative, artistic vrbo we have ever stayed in. We spent the first hour or so looking at the artwork as if we were in a museum. It was clean and cozy too. We loved the outdoor spaces on every side of the home. We sat out on the deck and listened to the live music from the restaurant on the next block over. Dan and Miriam checked to make sure we got there safely and even left us a bottle of wine and chocolate for our anniversary. We hope to return and enjoy the vibe of the house and town of Madrid.

Amazing stay with our pups! Very thoughtful hosts greeted us with goodies for them and a bottle of wine!Our dogs loved roaming the yard and we felt very secure they could not get out as it is fully fenced. They even have a dog crate!The mountain views are gorgeous and being able to walk everywhere around Madrid was a treat. We had a very comfortable stay!

Loved staying here! Couldn't ask for anything more at the house. Very clean and well appointed. We arrived and there were treats and toys for the pups and a bottle of wine for us. Town is just a very short walk. Loved it! We'll stay again if we are in the area!
