About this house rental
This is your peaceful and serene nature getaway with an off grid appeal. It is secluded and beautiful and borders the Shawnee National Forest boundary. It is right on the wine trail in southern Illinois, with plenty of orchards and famous hiking trails such as Little Grand Canyon and Pomona Natural Bridge. Hunting is legal on this 8.2 acre property, and there are plenty of places to hike on the property and into the connecting Shawnee National Forest. There are picnic areas in the woods and a spacious back deck to enjoy your morning coffee or evening glass of wine while enjoying the sunset. This place is very secluded and there is almost no traffic as it sits on a one lane farm road. The entire home has been renovated and remodeled, with a wood burning stove inside. For 2024, it is in the heart of total darkness for the eclipse! Rent this secluded place and have it all to yourself for the week! Your pets are more than welcome! The bedrooms sleep 5 people. Extra guests are welcome to bring air mattresses. The kitchen has coffee and a coffee maker, as well as ice and water. There is bathtub and a shower for guests. There is also a sheltered picnic area outside in case of rain, as well as a covered back deck. WI-FI has just been added to the home! .

The wife and I spent a few days in southern Illinois, hiking, herping, bird-watching, generally just getting away from work and the daily grind, and this place was a great stay. We weren't in the house very much, coming back in late afternoon after being out all day, but it's a great place for privacy and quiet. Very relaxing.The host offered quite simply the single greatest communication I've ever had from a cabin rental... he would get back to us with answers to our questions within minutes. Didn't expect that, and that alone makes this place worth getting. Also, he supplied us with plenty of bottled water to use, having suggested that the tap water (from well) might not taste good. This was very kind and appreciated. I'd definitely stay here again... the quiet I mentioned was fantastic, so if you're looking for peace and calmness (and to hear the orchestra of critters in the night) this is your place. (The only issue we had was the yard light, which is quite intense, but I'm well aware that no one else has had issues with it in their reviews, and we're used to black-out curtains in our bedroom. Small thing, and we simply ended up hanging some clothes over the window. It was, of course, actually nice to have it because otherwise you're pretty isolated out there... just mentioning it in the interest of thoroughness).Had no problems here at all. Wish I was there now.

This property was great. Unfortunately we were only there for a night and didn't get to experience more of the wilderness but our dogs absolutely loved it. House was clean, smelled a bit funny but not awful. Bathroom was huge which was nice but there is a stepup in the doorway that everyone kept stubbing their toe on. All that aside, the seclusion was really nice and the furniture was comfortable. The bed was a little stiff but it was perfect for my wife.

We had a great stay! Secluded cabin and a large property just the right size for a weekend away and within 20-30 minute driving distance of beautiful hiking trails/unique and delicious local restaurants! Would stay again.
