The river Colne runs through the town of Colchester which then leads to Mersea Island, home to the Colchester native oyster. Colchester today is a thriving, modern town with great visitor attractions including Colchester Zoo and Colchester Castle, as well as fantastic places to eat, drink and shop. Poised at the gateway to East Anglia with picturesque villages and only paces away from the coast the Colchester area is the perfect destination for a well-deserved short break or family holiday.
