About this house rental

A three-bedroom home in Burnside, Christchurch, sleeping six, five minutes from Christchurch Airport and 15 from the central city on a quiet residential street. Two queen bedrooms and a twin room, a family bathroom, and a kitchen set up for real cooking. Two living areas over two levels, heat pumps throughout, a laundry with washer and dryer, and two off-street carparks. Spotless, spacious, and quiet, a family-friendly base close to the airport and the shops.

The space

The layout

The home sleeps six across three bedrooms: two with a queen bed, and a third with two single beds. There's a family bathroom with a shower, a separate bath, vanity, and toilet. Linen and towels are provided, and a portacot and highchair are available on request. The home is over two levels connected by an internal staircase, worth noting for anyone who'd find stairs difficult, with two off-street carparks in the driveway plus street parking.

Living areas

There are two separate living areas, one on each level, so part of the group can find a quiet corner while the others keep going. The downstairs lounge is the main gathering spot, with comfortable sofas, an armchair, and a TV, and a ranchslider that opens straight out to the backyard. Heat pumps keep the home warm through the cooler months, something guests mention in review after review. Upstairs is a second, more relaxed lounge with bean bags and a games nook, a Scrabble set and plenty to see out a rainy afternoon, and a good spot for the kids to have their own space.

Kitchen

The kitchen is set up for proper self-catering, not just reheating; a guest here for six weeks cooked in most nights and called it super equipped. It has an oven, hob, rangehood, dishwasher, microwave, and a full-size fridge-freezer, with a dark stone benchtop and good bench space, and it's well stocked with pots, pans, baking trays, and everyday crockery and glassware. There's a plunger for coffee, and a kettle and toaster on the bench. The dining table seats six, with bar stools at the island for overflow. The separate laundry has a washing machine and dryer, handy for families and longer stays.

Outdoor space

The backyard is fully fenced and genuinely private, with a sheltered timber deck tucked into one corner behind a slatted privacy screen: built-in bench seating around a table, and raised garden beds alongside. It's a real sun-trap and a quiet place to wind down at the end of the day, well shielded from the neighbours. The deck opens off the downstairs lounge, and there's lawn for the children to run around. In spring the garden comes into colour, with birdsong and the occasional visit from the neighbour's cat.

Wi-Fi and welcome

Unlimited Wi-Fi runs throughout, good enough that a guest ran a six-week remote-work stay here without trouble. You'll usually find a welcome drink waiting, along with tea, coffee, and biscuits to get you started. The home is managed by the BookaHome team, who have been running holiday homes across Canterbury for 14 years. Communication is the thing guests mention most after the location: quick, clear, and calm, whether it's sorting a late check-in after a delayed flight or replying across the time difference to Europe during a long stay. Plenty of guests here are repeat visitors, several having stayed multiple times, which is the clearest sign the place does what it says.

Location

The home is in Burnside, a quiet, established suburb in northwest Christchurch, handy to the airport, the university, and the shops without being on top of any of them.

On foot:

Bus stop: 2 minutes, with a direct run into the city

Avonhead shopping centre (supermarket, shops, and places to eat): 20 minutes

By car:

Russley Golf Club and function centre: 2 minutes

Avonhead shopping centre: 5 minutes

University of Canterbury (Ilam): 6 minutes

Christchurch Airport: 7 minutes

Willowbank Wildlife Reserve: 10 minutes, an easy outing for families or couples

Westfield Riccarton mall: 11 minutes

Christchurch central city: 15 minutes

It's the quiet-plus-airport combination guests single out: near the main roads, but a street you'd never know it from, and close to the airport for early flights.

Good to know

Check-in is from 3pm and check-out by 10am, with early check-in or a later check-out sometimes possible if the schedule allows, so message to ask. Access is by lockbox, with the code sent before you arrive, so there's no key handover to coordinate. Quiet hours apply from 10pm, in keeping with the residential street. This is a strictly smoke-free home, and pets are not permitted. Please note there is a security camera with audio at the front door only, for the safety of guests and property; it's outside the home and records entry and exit only, not inside. For anything that comes up during your stay, message through the platform or call the number in the welcome pack, and we respond quickly.

Who it suits

It works well for families, with room for the kids to spread out: two living areas over two levels, a games nook upstairs, and a fenced backyard to run around in. It suits couples after a quiet, private base near the shops and the airport too, and business travellers or people relocating who need to settle in for a few weeks with a real kitchen and unlimited Wi-Fi, plus anyone in for a round at Russley Golf or an event at its function centre, both two minutes down the road. Seven minutes from the airport when you want to be gone, and quiet enough to forget it's there when you're back.

GUEST ACCESS

Guests have full and exclusive use of the home: three bedrooms, the family bathroom, the well-equipped kitchen, both living areas across the two levels, the separate laundry, and the fully fenced backyard with its sheltered deck and built-in seating. Two off-street carparks in the driveway, plus street parking. The washing machine and dryer are included for guest use.

The home is over two levels connected by an internal staircase, worth noting for anyone who finds stairs difficult.

Need more space? A fourth bedroom and an extra bathroom can be added to your booking for an additional fee, reserved separately as our listing Lavandula 4. Good for larger families, or two families travelling together.
