I have mixed feelings about my experience at Bob W Helsinki Kamppi, mainly because the beginning of my stay was quite frustrating, while everything after that turned out to be genuinely excellent.
The location is one of the biggest advantages. Bob W Helsinki Kamppi is conveniently located close to Helsinki city centre and within easy reach of many of the city’s major attractions, restaurants, cafés and shopping areas. There is also a supermarket right next to the building, which is extremely convenient, especially if you’re staying for several days.
This is where my experience started badly.
There is no traditional reception, which I don’t mind at all in fact, I like the concept of self-check-in when it works properly. Unfortunately, on my check-in date, the instructions about how to access the building and complete the check-in process were not communicated to me in time.
I ended up waiting outside the building for around 2.5 hours.
During that time, I repeatedly contacted the Bob W helpline through WhatsApp and also called the provided phone number, but for a long time I couldn’t get anyone to respond. Even well after the scheduled check-in time, I still had no access and no clear instructions.
At one point, I was so frustrated that I was actually contacting Agoda customer service to request a refund and make alternative accommodation arrangements.
Thankfully, Bob W eventually responded through WhatsApp, apologised for the delay, and sent me the link to complete the online check-in. Once that was sorted, the entire experience changed completely.
After completing the online check-in, I received an access code that worked on practically everything I needed including the main entrance, lift, room, laundry room and other doors.
This was actually very convenient. Once the system was working, I didn’t need to deal with reception, keys or cards at all. It made coming and going very easy.
The room itself was spacious, clean, beautifully decorated and very well equipped.
One of my favourite features was having a proper kitchen inside the room, complete with utensils, a refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher. This makes a huge difference if you’re staying for more than a couple of nights or simply don’t want to eat out for every meal.
The bathroom was also clean and well maintained.
I particularly liked the aesthetic and thoughtful interior design. The room felt modern, comfortable and more like a small apartment than a typical hotel room.
Another major plus is the free washer and dryer available for guests.
For travellers, this is incredibly convenient, especially if you’re staying for several days or travelling with limited luggage. Having access to both washing and drying facilities without having to pay extra was a huge advantage for me.
As mentioned, there is a supermarket right next to the building, which makes the in-room kitchen even more useful. You can easily pick up groceries, snacks, breakfast items or anything else you need and prepare them in your room.
Combined with the central location, this makes Bob W a particularly good option for longer stays.
Despite the very frustrating start, once I finally got access to the property, my stay was excellent. The room, facilities, location, cleanliness and overall design genuinely exceeded my expectations.
The concept of Bob W works really well for travellers who prefer the independence of an apartment with the convenience of a hotel.
My only significant complaint is the check-in communication. Making a guest wait 2.5 hours outside the building, particularly when there is no reception and no one is responding to calls or messages, is something that absolutely needs to be improved. A simple automated message with the check-in instructions sent on the morning of arrival would probably have prevented the entire problem.
I would definitely stay here again, but I hope Bob W improves the arrival process so future guests don’t experience the same situation.
