La Maison du Rempart is located in the village of Lussan. An independent house with magnificent panoramic view to the Castle, the lowland of Lussan, and Mount Bouquet. When the view is unobstructed and the sky is clear we can see: Mount Ventoux in the east, Tanargue and Ardèche mountains in the north, Lozère in the northwest. The environment in the house is calm and peaceful, there are no cars in the village that is located on an oppidum (only one street passes by and it is a dead end street). The house is constructed with stones from the area and it dates back to 1637 according to the date that has been engraved in the fireplace. The interior of the house was reformed in 2012. There is all the necessary and modern equipment in the kitchen. The bedrooms are big and calm and the thickness of the walls guarantees a natural freshness in summer. The electric heating completes the equipment in between seasons. A small garden under the shadow of a centenary mulberry tree enables you to rest in the shadow. A free municipal parking lot is located behind the house. There are basic shopping facilities close to the village: -in Lussan: a producer’s grocery store (in summer), a 24h gas station, a travelling baker – in Fons sur Lussan (3 km away): grocery store where you can find all the necessary – in Mejannes le Clap (10 km away) you have all the stores, services and small classic supermarkets - in Uzès (18 km away) you will find all the stores and supermarkets of a city (Carrefour, Intermarché). Local producers will also offer you their products specially goat cheese, sheep cheese, honey or jams. A market of local products takes place every Monday in Méjannes le Clap and every Wednesday in Uzès. For several excursions by car, on foot or by bicycle (or even by horse) we suggest: - Uzès and its middle age part that has been maintained - the Concluses, a canyon connected by menhir paths, the highest in southern France, - the tourist resort of Méjannes le Clap where we find Dolmen known as “the table of the Turkish”, beaches at the banks of the river and the gorges of Cèze, and caves (La Salamandre). The climb to Mount Bouquet can be done by car, by bicycle or on foot. There is the village of Goudargues known as the Venice of Gard. There is also the reformed village of la Roque sur Ceze and the waterfalls of Sautadet. GPS position: Lat 44° 9’ 4" N Long 4° 22’ 0" E. ' Gîte Lussan Maison Rempart'. The property has great character and is perfect for a quiet peaceful holiday. The photographs on the website give a realistic view of the house/apartment. It was wonderful to sit in the balcony reading or relaxing. Lussan is a beautiful French village and we had two great meals in the local restaurant (make sure you make a reservation in time). The location while quiet is very central. We had many road trips including Nimes, Arles, Pont du Gard, Avignon, Orange etc. There are many marked walks around Lussan, one even includes art installations. You can order bread in the local shop and get some essentials, however a trip to the markets is a must. Claudine was so friendly and made us feel most welcome.

First of all a big thank you to Madame Giraud for making my wife and I so welcome. For those that don't know the area, Lussan is a small old stone built village that is perched by itself some 50M above the surrounding country side on a rock outcrop. The most accessible town would be Uzes some 20 Minutes drive by car.. so having transport is essential. We picked a car up from Nimes Airport . The views from the village are lovely , as are the sunrises and sunsets and its probably reasonable to walk the circumference of the ramparts in 15 Mins ( if you didn't stop to admire the country side) . The village when we were there in early Sept was very quiet . Although it is a functioning village with a small primary school you'll have to get in the car to do any shopping. If you're used to living in the countryside, as I do, its not a problem , that's just a part of the experience . However if you live in a town or any large conurbation you may take a while to adjust .. but please try it ;). The Property is a part of a larger structure and forms the top floor. The ground floor is only partially used and didn't cause us any problems at all . The building to the side is occupied but again didn't cause any problems at all . To all intents you might as well be on your own, the stone walls are very thick. The usual facilities are good, the property is clean and tidy. One point in terms of services is that the description mentions that the property has Wifi within short range at the post office. The issue though is that with the stone walls being so thick its not actually available within the confines of the property. If you're desperate the 3g / 4g coverage is acceptable for downloading films . Actually we didn't miss it. As this was our first two week break in 28 years without all or some of our numerous children , my wife and I spent more time talking to each other and reading books which turned out to be one of the best things about the property. In terms of location , Uzes which is a fine old country town is a good base for exploring Gard and further afield. We found no problem in discovering the local area and visiting the local villages and towns such as Nimes, Orange , Avignon, Aigues Mortes and even further afield to the Gorge to Verdon. I would recommend that you have some French , Madame Giraud has some English so between the two parties things can be well understood. It was a lovely place for a quiet break .

We spent two weeks in Lussan and absolutely loved this apartment. The views are fantastic and there are many walking trails in the nearby area. Our children loved the quiet village streets and the nearby playground. The apartment is spacious and quiet with every convenience you could need. Thanks again for a wonderful holiday- we will return!
