About this cottage rental
Featured in The Sunday Times' Top Places to Stay in Cornwall, Birch Studio has become a favourite for couples seeking a peaceful escape from everyday life. Hidden amongst twisted trees and lush greenery, it feels wonderfully secluded, yet remains just moments from the coast and some of Cornwall's most sought-after destinations.
Recently and lovingly renovated throughout, the interiors have been transformed into a luxurious sanctuary, blending elegant sage green, soft cream and warm gold accents. The result is a beautifully calming space that feels both sophisticated and welcoming, perfectly complementing the natural beauty that surrounds it.
Steeped in history, Birch Studio was once home to renowned artist Samuel John Lamorna Birch RA RWS (1869–1955), one of the leading figures of the Newlyn School. His artistic legacy remains woven into the building, with traces of original paint still visible around the oak doorway.
Inside, natural light pours through the windows, illuminating calming interiors inspired by the surrounding landscape. Earthy tones, luxurious furnishings and carefully considered details create a cosy and inviting space where guests can truly switch off and reconnect.
Outside, the setting is simply breathtaking. Spend your mornings enjoying coffee beside the stream as brown trout glide through the pools below. After a day exploring Cornwall's beaches, coastal paths and picturesque fishing villages, return to your private hot tub and sauna, where you can soak beneath the trees while kingfishers dart across the water. As evening falls, enjoy a glass of wine and listen to the sounds of nature before settling in for a cosy night indoors.
The fully enclosed patio area makes Birch Studio ideal for guests travelling with dogs, allowing them to relax safely while you enjoy the peaceful surroundings. There is also a barbecue, perfect for al fresco dining on warm Cornish evenings, surrounded by nothing but woodland, wildlife and the gentle sound of the stream.
Despite its wonderfully secluded setting, Birch Studio is perfectly positioned for exploring West Cornwall. The beach at Lamorna Cove and the much-loved Wink Inn are both just a two-minute walk away. The charming fishing village of Mousehole, with its harbour, galleries and waterfront restaurants, is only a five-minute drive away, while nearby Newlyn offers excellent seafood restaurants and a bustling fishing port atmosphere.
The famous Minack Theatre, Porthcurno Beach, St Michael's Mount, Land's End and the beautiful coastal paths of the Penwith Peninsula are all within easy reach, making Birch Studio an ideal base for discovering some of Cornwall's most spectacular scenery.
Whether you're celebrating a special occasion, planning a romantic break, or simply seeking a peaceful retreat immersed in nature, Birch Studio offers an unforgettable escape where luxury, history and natural beauty come together effortlessly.
Please note that Birch Studio sleeps a maximum of four guests, with one king-size bedroom, a small sofa bed in the living area and a mezzanine reading nook. The property is intentionally compact and full of character, with the lounge, dining and kitchen areas combined into one welcoming space, while the shower room and washing facilities are located within the bedroom.
