Lose yourself in a slice of paradise, 10 minutes off the coastal highway atop a tropical rainforest mountain overlooking Uvita, Costa Rica, the tourist and adventure-tour hub of the Costa Ballena region. As soon as you drive through the property’s gates you’ll understand why it’s named Casa Mama’s Happy -- swaying palm trees and a lush botanical garden welcomes you into a secluded, relaxing retreat.
The space
The Home
Perched on the mountain above Uvita, Casa Mama’s Happy offers panoramic views of the valley and its famous Whale Tail beach, as well as easy access to town. The 3900 sq ft contemporary home features a spacious open floor plan with every modern comfort. Four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms accommodate 10 guests with comfort and privacy while offering expansive communal spaces. Accordion doors span the front and back of the house, sliding wide open to the lush botanical gardens and the natural outdoor beauty of Costa Rica. Enjoy the cooling mountain breeze and hear the cry of sparring toucans and breaking surf while you take in the views from the garden and infinity pool, or the balcony that spans the home’s entire second level.
The spacious kitchen with U.S. spec appliances offers all the necessary amenities to host friends and family. An oversized island is the heart of this kitchen and a great place to start your day with a cup of Costa Rican coffee. The adjacent uniquely furnished living room is a large gathering area with direct access to the first of two master bedrooms, complete with a king-sized bed and en-suite with dual sinks and a large rain shower. Ascending to the second floor via the floating staircase, you’ll encounter the second master bedroom, identical to the one on the main floor. Large sliding doors will spoil you with even further-reaching views of the rainforest, the Uvita valley, and the beach, the access to the house needs a 4x4 vehicle special in the rainy season (Aug, Sep, and Oct).
From the top of the staircase or the master balcony, you can enter the upstairs TV room. A large 4K HDTV, Bose surround sound speakers and comfortable loungers invite you to unwind with streaming services like Netflix, Prime TV, or Apple TV. The loungers convert into beds for additional sleeping capacity. Adjacent to the TV room is another outdoor seating area on the rear balcony, a private setting that allows you to experience the mountainside of the rainforest. Shades will make this balcony a favorite for those looking for quiet serenity.
The second floor also offers two additional guest quarters. The ocean side room features spectacular views, access to the expansive balcony, a queen-size bed, and an office desk for those who like to remain connected with home. The second guest room will be a favorite for younger family members, offering a mountain view and two twin beds that can be converted into a king bed if desired. Both guest rooms share a common bathroom with a walk-in shower. All rooms feature individually controlled air conditioning, overhead fans, and televisions with access to streaming services.

Amazing house and we loved Uvita! The house had enough room for everyone to hang out together or for us each to relax quietly alone. Mama’s Happy was stocked with everything we needed for an easy week in Uvita. The host and concierge were quick to respond to any questions. Michelle, the concierge helped us to book all of our excursions which were amazing. Great restaurants in Uvita as well! We highly recommend staying at Villa Mama’s Happy!

Second time staying at this property. The cleaning staff do an excellent job and pay close attention to detail for the new arrivals. The pool guy Chuck is very helpful and informative and an overall great person. House has all the kitchen gadgets and tools needed. Would recommend this property to most.

We loved this place immediately! The view was breathtaking, the whale’s tail was a wonderful site and the daily animal visits were a highlight we looked forward to everyday!The iguana poop in the pool not so much, but hey, you're in their jungle. A 4x4 was a must have for the road up and exploring the area.

The house was very clean and has everything you would ever need. Lots of wildlife we had monkeys, macaws, toucans, iguanas, JC lizards, and many butterflies. The view of the whale tail is great. I would recommend this rental and would like to return
