About this house rental
Villa Osa Dulce Vida features a main house that can comfortably accommodate up to five guests—eight if necessary—and a guest apartment that’s ideal for a couple or a single digital nomad, but can sleep up to three. With separate entrances, we invite you to book one or the other individually, or the entire complex for larger groups. We offer weekly and monthly discounts, but we do have a minimum stay of three days. During the two holiday weeks in December and the Easter holiday week, there is a seven-day minimum stay.
The main home boasts an unparalleled view of primary and secondary rainforest and the Golfo Dulce—the tenth deepest gulf in the world and Jacques Cousteau’s legendary “tropical fjord.” With both the northern and southern Pacific populations of humpback whales migrating during their respective winters to the warm waters of the Golfo Dulce for calving and early calf rearing, it is a prime habitat for viewing humpbacks and other cetaceans. There is an annual migration of whale sharks that gather in the gulf in March and April. Whale sharks are solitary creatures that gather in schools only occasionally in isolated parts of the world. One such location is just a few hundred meters from our front door. The six acres comprising Villa Mantilla’s grounds are teeming with monkeys, anteaters, tayras, five species of felines, kinkajous, coatis, opossums, red-sprocket deer, two species of peccaries, and many of the 715 bird species native to the Osa Peninsula in general, including the striking scarlet macaw and the chestnut-mandibled toucan, along with a variety of motmots, toucanets, trogons, frigatebirds, and a profusion of songbirds and raptors.
We are located at the very head of the Golfo Dulce, and thanks to its geographic protection from the open Pacific, there are no waves on the beach in front of Osa Dulce Vida—only gentle ripples along the small beaches at the base of the steep mountain slopes. The trail down to the beach is 400 meters long and descends 100 meters in elevation. It’s a bit of a hike and a full-on adventure. We can arrange pickups at the shoreline for sport fishing, water tours, and even transportation to and from Puerto Jiménez, Golfito, and other locations within the gulf.
