About this house rental
Casa do Monte is a beautifully-restored 18th century Portuguese manor house surrounded by sweeping valleys and stunning hills. Situated in the village of Teixeiró, near Mesão Frio in the heart of the Lower Corgo area of the Port Wine Route, it is ideally-located to explore the Douro valley and the centuries-old wine-making heritage.
The property is family-owned, and caters exclusively for large families or groups of friends who wish to spend holidays together with the option of getting away from everyone at times. Guests will find it just as easy to have fun together as to relax alone!
The house has nine bedrooms (5 with own bathroom, 4 sharing 2 bathrooms) and exquisite reception rooms, and boasts central heating throughout. Bedrooms and key common areas also have air conditioning units. Additional beds and cots are also available.
Children and those more energetic adults can enjoy fun moments in the outdoor pool set in manicured lawns adjacent to the house. Outdoors you can also enjoy garden games such as croquet or Jenga. Or you can walk around the garden and appreciate the local flora, or simply sit on the patio or by the pool enjoying the views with a glass of wine. If you feel like a bit of a climb, go further afield into the orchards and pick your own seasonal fruit for dinner.
Prefer to be indoors? Play cards, darts or table football in our games room, or saunter off for a game of billiards in the room next door. There is even a projection room complete with cinema-style seating (and yes, you can bring your own popcorn!) to watch a movie! Or just take your well-deserved break sitting in one of our classically-decorated yet extremely comfortable living rooms.
Breakfast is included, so look forward to delicious freshly-baked bread, fragrant coffee and many other goodies! Lunch out on the patio overlooking the pool is usually very appealing. But when the time comes for dinner, you can enjoy dining in our luxuriously-appointed dining room, eating off Portuguese fine tableware. Or if you prefer less formal dining, sit outdoors “while still being indoors” in the inner courtyard. The property is often used by the owners for family gatherings or parties, so it is fully-equipped to handle large groups - you won't need to worry about running out of crockery! And if you fancy trying out some Portuguese traditional food we can have some delivered at an extra cost. Or perhaps you would like to completely remove the hassle of preparing meals by adding a live-in cook specializing in Portuguese cuisine, complete with a waiter to serve at table? Ask us for details on available options and costs.

Casa do Monte, Marcus, Rosa and staff truly gave us the best 4 days of our lives. When planning our wedding we were looking for a place in the Douro Valley that could serve as our wedding venue for 35 people AND a place to stay for all 13 of our friends. After reading reviews of the property and how helpful the host was - we decided to book. It turned out to be the absolute best decision.From the start Marcus was communicative and invaluably helpful in planning our day. He was able to help us book our dinner, flowers, transportation, source our wine and beer, and organized a brilliant team of staff to make it all happen. More than that, he put us at total ease. That is truly priceless. Everything, and we mean EVERYTHING was even better than we could have imagined. The house itself is magical - a true gem in such a charming part of the Douro Valley. It is much bigger than it seems online and you can hang here for days without ever leaving property because there is so much to do. Our group really enjoyed the pool and cooking in the very well appointed kitchen. The breakfast every morning was perfect and the house felt so spacious that even with 15 of us you would have to make an effort to run into everyone! One of our absolute favorite parts about our stay was how the home really felt like home. Marcus went above and beyond to make us feel like the place was ours and to invite all of our friends to enjoy it as well. From the bottom of our hearts - muito obrigado!!!!

Marcus’ place is incredible! It was much bigger than we expected and worked perfectly for our group (two families with teenage kids 14- 18 plus my 80 year old mother). The pool was great (particularly given the heat!) and we made good use of the gym and cinema room (the property also has its own chapel!) Having Rosa, the housekeeper, join us every morning to set out breakfast was fantastic and meant that we had one less meal to organise. Deserves its 5* rating!

Our week at Casa do Monte far exceeded our expectations and will be a beautiful memory for our entire family. The ladies that took care of the breakfast and cleaning were wonderful and communication with Marcus was very easy. The breakfasts were delicious. The swimming pool and the outdoor area around it were perfect and we had a weeklong family party. Ricardo and Paula are a couple that operate a restaurant in Teixeira, a short drive from Casa do Monte. They provided a delicious dinner meal for us three nights while we were at the villa. We enjoyed their food so much that on the night that the whole family went out for dinner we went to their restaurant. We could not have picked a better place to stay in all of Portugal. Thank you so much Marcus and all of your staff for making our stay so memorable.
