About this house rental

A clean and tidy holiday home which is just a 2 minute walk to Matapouri Bay - surely one of the most beautiful beaches in Northland. The bach consists of 3 bedrooms which can comfortably accomodate 8 people. The bach is conveniently located close to the estuary which is a great spot to take the kids kayaking. We have 2 kayaks available to be used by guests. The property is fully fenced and is flat - ideal for parking the boat. We have recently added a large deck to the property which is great during the summer months.

The bach is also close to some other magical spots - including Sandy Bay (surfer's mecca), Wooleys Bay and the beautiful Whale Bay. Tutukaka is just 6km away where dive trips to the Poor Knights islands or fishing charters can be arranged.

There are many other activities that you can take part in during your stay - these include swimming, snorkelling, surfing, golf, walking, fishing, cycling and mountain biking. Golf courses are located at Whangarei (30 minute drive) and further north at Hikurangi.

Special conditions:
Pets OK but please keep outside and tidy up after them.
Smoking OK but only outside.
Two nights minimum stay.
Please ensure all rubbish is removed before departing.

NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave; Bring your own linen (towels/sheets/tea towels);

Very tidy property - warm and inviting inside. Plenty of room for our group. Only a 2 minute walk to the beach and 1 minute to the local dairy. We really enjoyed our brief stay here - would love to spend longer another time. Thanks to our welcoming host.

Thank U for the chilled atmosphere, kids loved it, close to everything estuary, bridge for bombing, at the beach, everything you would need for a comfy stay, had a lil issue with trampoline but John was easy to communicate wih and sort out … recommend this lil gem to stay … Thanks again John

Would have loved to stay longer. Perfect bach, heaps of space, everything we needed was there and a very short walk to one of the most magical spots in nz for us. Loved it! Highly recommend, can’t wait to return!

Had a great stay. Short walk to a beautiful beach and a great general store close by which sells good takeaways. More amazing beaches a short drive away. The bach is comfortable with all the things you need for a relaxing summer holiday. John the owner is friendly and easy to communicate with.

Place is lovely, actually nicer in person than pictures. Great location, would definitely stay again and host responsive on messaging when I had a question. Only minor comment is there was no hand soap in bathroom or hand towel, comms had said to sheets, towel, teatowel so didn't think would need anything else. Bought handsoap from shop and left it there for next guests.

The property was what was listed but there was no hot water in the shower, we told John and he said just wait a while it will come? 15min later still no hot water in the shower. Looking at the visitors book this has been a problem for many years and it doesn’t seem like John is interested in correcting it?

Perfect location and a great Bach for the family.

I arrived at the house on the evening of my birthday with my family, only to be met with an unpleasant surprise. My mum, who had just arrived from America earlier that morning, and I had to don cleaning gloves and brave an hour-long cleaning session before we could bring the kids and our belongings inside. The grass outside had not been mowed, the beds were left unmade and messy with used sheets, the toilet was dirty, and food crumbs were scattered all across the couches, kitchen bench, and floor. Despite this unwelcome situation, we managed to have a pleasant stay. The location of the house was very nice, and its size was perfect for our large family. We were blessed with sunny days throughout our stay and the kids really enjoyed using the kayaks! Overall, our experience turned out to be positive. I plan to reach out to the owner to seek reimbursement for the extensive cleaning we undertook upon arrival. This massive effort was undertaken by a birthday girl and her jet-lagged mum on the first evening of our vacation- it felt outrageously unfair!

We had a few nights revisiting Matapouri Bay and our stay at the property was clean, comfortable and in a great location. Communication with John was quick and he was very accommodating to my enquires. We loved lounging out in the sun on the front deck and the kiddies loved the trampoline. Thanks John!

Well set up batch- 5 minutes walk from beach. We had a lovely stay and I would recommend. Lots of kitchen utensils etc. Bed comfortable There was a bit of rubbish when we arrived including curdled milk which wasn't that pleasant and the rooms a bit dusty so could do with a good spring clean.

Great stay with our family. Bach in a super location. Set back from the road and close to general store and beach. Bought pizza from the shop which was tasty. Kitchen well equipped, beds comfy, bathroom nice, grandaughter impressed with the range of stuff for kids - DVDs, puzzles, games etc. Nice deck with good seating. Beach beautiful and Whale Bay definitely worth a visit. Grandson had a couple of refreshing swims. Great to be able to take our dogs. Well fenced and safe for kids and dogs.

This Bach was a very comfortable stay with everything you need for cooking and entertainment. A short walk to the beach, plenty of room for dogs to run in the section and safe. Very relaxing. We will visit again. A lovely area and beach.
