The School Estate in 100 Acres

We had an amazing stay for 2 nights. The cottage itself feels like it has come right out of an old British novel. Room is beautiful, with an equally amazing outdoor sitting. Food and service is impeccable - Mr Ganesh is a great host, and he gives the perfect amount of personal attention that you desire on a vacation. Every meal was thoughtfully planned and deliciously executed. A small but well-curated book collection gives you rich insights into the Kodava culture.

A great place to detach and digitally detox! We would wake up to the dawn symphony of the birds 🐦 and enjoyed relaxing nature walks around the estate. Mr. Shashidhar and his team took efforts to make our stay comfortable. Got a glimpse of rich Kodawa heritage through visits to the Kodawa Ainemane & Temples nearby. And appreciated Coorg's nature at Thalakavery (2 hours drive) & around.

The 91 years old owner took a lot of effort to ensure our stay was perfect and even invited us to his private home for a new year celebration. The food , the classic and well thought out elements in the room was so special, that real vintage charm and soul. The lady who started the Honestay is the one who did the landscaping and took care of the details. The staff have utmost dedication and respect for the space and that’s what makes all the difference. We got to do a lot of birding just sitting from our outdoor chair setup. (Secret tip : stay in the room with the twin bed, more private and easy access the the main lawn)

Firstly the property infrastructure is 10/10. Beautiful garden, beautiful and clean rooms and bathrooms. Just the hot water availability in bathroom is a problem, seems the heater is not working as expected. What i didn’t like is the kitchen and dinning area. The food is served on a common table so we had to interact with the other couple mandatorily as the food is served common. We went to the trip for some me time but had to socialize in every meal. We being vegetarians didn’t appreciate pork being served so casually in the same table as ours. Also the caretaker didn’t kind of much bothered about us being vegetarians, despite mentioning this before hand while booking. He asked while serving on table and reacted saying”oh you are vegetarian”.This was a huge downside and kind of made our stay unpleasant
