Suksabai Hotel Phuket

The hotel is on a quiet street about a 5 minute walk from the old town, and a couple of minutes walk (via a car park which has a Wednesday night market) from a shopping mall which has eateries and a Tops supermarket. The owner and his wife/partner are very friendly, informative and helpful, and speak good English.

Although the price of rooms is cheap for Phuket town, it was 200-300 baht more than I had paid at other no-frills fan-only & cold-shower hotels in other towns and cities in south Thailand during a 7-week cycling trip. // The sink basin in the bathroom (for room 219) was very very slow to drain, and the bathroom floor looked as if it needed a good scrub. // The room faced east, and because the curtains were thin and had no black-out lining the room would get very hot by 9 in the morning. I put my blanket over the curtain pole to block out some of the sunshine, and this helped a little. // The mattress was a bit saggy in places and I was a little surprised there was no mattress protector on it. // There was only a single socket, and that was far away from the bed, next to the door and the switches for the lights. Luckily, I had a 1.5 meter charging cable, so put my phone on one of the chairs to charge.

Simple place, but worth the cost and benefit. Cold shower was not a problem since the days are very hot in Phuket. Nice employees. Great location, close to the bus station and the center of the old town.

We stayed here for 6 nights and felt very comfortable from the first moment on. The hotel is in an excellent location – only about a 3-minute walk to Phuket Old Town and around 15 minutes to Phuket Bus Terminal 1. Just around the corner you’ll find a shopping mall, small stores, plenty of food places, massage shops and bars. Even though the location is very central, it was surprisingly quiet at night and we always slept well. The neighborhood also felt very safe. There is daily cleaning service if you leave your key at the reception when heading out for the day. As mentioned in the description, there is currently no air conditioning (as of January 2025), but the ceiling fan was absolutely sufficient for us. The windows are fully equipped with mosquito nets – we kept them open 24/7 and never had a mosquito in the room. In the lobby you can buy cold drinks, bottled water and snacks at very reasonable prices, and you can also use a kettle and microwave. The hotel itself is older, but very clean and well taken care of. What really made stood out was the owner and his family. They are incredibly kind, warm and helpful, and you can truly feel their hospitality. They support you in every way they can and make you feel very welcome. It’s also possible to have a scooter delivered directly to the hotel and picked up again when you leave. There is a WhatsApp contact displayed in the lobby for easy communication – unfortunately, we noticed it a bit too late and didn’t get to use it. Small tip for fellow Europeans: if you’re unsure how to lock the room, just ask at reception – they will happily and patiently show you 😄 (you lock it from the inside and then simply close the door). Overall, a lovely place with an amazing, caring host. We would definitely stay here again.
