Guesthouse Kaede

Although a bit of a walk from the train station this property was very close to all the main things you want to see and do In Takayama. Very authentic Japanese old style accommodation yet comfortable with modern conveniences. Lots of space to move around. Very responsive host who was readily available for any help needed. Quick and easy check-in.

Included WiFi was hopeless and should not be relied on. Also it’s ok to not wear shoes in the house but the “slippers” provided were too small and poor quality.

Location was awesome, near all the sights and activities of old town. Such a beautiful and spacious space to have all to yourselves at a great value, would be good for a family. Felt so much more personal, authentic and cozy than a generic hotel. I didn't see until now that they typically don't store luggage however the host was very accommodating to our situation and helped us do so for a few hours. Very helpful instruction book. Washer AND a dryer, the latter is hard to come by in Japanese vacation stays!!

The description might just note the narrow/steep stairs to both bedrooms. We had no problem getting up and down, but someone with mobility issues might have trouble. It was a little chilly too but figured out the heater, and also closing the doors to entryway helped keep heat in main area. It is a large home!
