A delightful float house on the John Day River, minutes from charming Astoria, Oregon, this home offers a perfect place to enjoy river recreation and relaxation. Originally a floating store, guests now enjoy all the modern conveniences mixed with old-world charm. Sitting adjacent to 16 acres of farmland, enjoy the peace and serenity of country life or use it as a jumping-off point for your adventure on the coast.
The Float House at Jack Creek features a full kitchen, laundry room with washer and dryer, 3 bedrooms, and office, 2 bathrooms, high-speed WiFi, and smart TVs. Guests are also welcome to use the kayaks and rowboat at the float house to explore the John Day River.
Guests will have access to the whole house during the stay and are welcome to explore the property, as well.

The Float House at Jack Creek sits on the John Day River where Jack Creek empties in. Sixteen acres of private land offer plenty of space for walking and day-time adventures. The large dock offers a place to tie up personal watercraft and embark on kayaking or paddle boarding adventures.
About 5 miles east of historic Astoria, Oregon, The Float House at Jack Creek is located within easy distance of many outdoor activities, including clam digging, fishing, beaches, museums, shopping, hiking and fine dining.
Being so close to the Pacific Ocean, the float house is affected by its tides. Since the house is actually floating, it will go up and down with the level of the river and guests will experience the changes the natural beauty that accompanied the change of tides.
Clatsop County charges a 10.5% Transient Room tax that Airbnb does not automatically collect. That will be calculated on your nightly rate and will be collected through the Airbnb app when you check in.
Guests 10 and under and non-swimmers must wear life jackets (provided by the owner) at all times when on the deck outside.
There is a 10.5% Transient Room tax imposed by Clatsop County that will be collected upon check-in.

Second stay here. So peaceful, private, beautiful, quiet, and really close to Astoria proper. I wish we stayed longer but it gets booked up so fast! Host is really friendly and available. We love staying here.

The float house was incredible. I had a hard time pulling my family away to explore Astoria and the surrounding areas. It was serene and rejuvenating. We spent time on the watercraft, watching birds, playing games, and just enjoying the ambience of the John Day River. Liz has really put a lot of thought into this rental. Everything we needed was at our fingertips. My wife says this stay will be a new core memory.

We had a wonderful and a refreshingly unique stay at the Float House. It felt very private on the river and perfectly located for lots of activities in Astoria and along the coastline. Joy met us at the site to give s a friendly walk through and address any questions that we had. She was very responsive when we had one more question later in our stay. The kitchen was well supplied for our needs. The spice rack was very impressive. The bedroom arrangements worked perfectly for us and we were very comfortable. We enjoyed the ever changing weather and ebb and flow of the river. Though we didn't venture out in the kayaks, (horrid weather) we look forward to coming back and discovering the river in better weather. It was fun to watch the dragon boat practice too. We saw Jack, the blue heron, several times. I don't know the eagle's name, but he/she made a flyover a few times. Keep those binos close by. There is also a very interesting large book upstairs that is a primer to the estuary. This place is truly an undiscovered gem. The only note I could make is let people know that as the river changes the ramp leading to the float house can be quite steep. It wasn't a problem for us but it would be worth mentioning for those who aren't as mobile.

We had a wonderful stay. All the rooms were clean and comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed. And the host was friendly and available when we had questions. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.
