SISSI MENDEL KAISERRESIDENCE Your vacation becomes an experience at the Mendel Pass

Our lodging is located in the Villa Imperiale. Empress Sissi and Pope Benedict once stayed at this imperial residence. In the last century, the Mendel Valley was a popular health resort, especially among the Habsburg nobility, after the area was opened up to tourism with the completion of the Mendel Pass Road in 1885. Even today, the tennis court and bocce court built back then are available to our guests free of charge.
We, the Zwerger family, would be delighted to welcome you to the Sissi Imperial Residence. Your vacation will be a unique experience in the heart of the mountains, right on the Mendel Pass. Here, you’ll enjoy fantastic moments in harmony with nature. Enjoy hiking, biking, or mountain biking tours with your family and discover the numerous places to stop for refreshments at various mountain huts around Penegal, Gangkofel, and Roen. There are 2 km of slopes available for skiing and snowboarding. Two lifts transport guests. The winter sports area lies at an elevation ranging from 1,368 to 1,594 m. The outdoor pool in Ronzone is very close by and offers the perfect way to cool off on warm summer days. The Golfwiesen ski and hiking area at the Mendel Pass is easily accessible by car, bike, or on foot. Here you can go hiking, sledding, and enjoy alpine and backcountry skiing. There is a cross-country ski trail on the Regole meadows, about a 10-minute drive away. The Mendelbahn, which opened in 1903, is a must-see attraction, as it is the steepest funicular in all of Europe. It takes just 12 minutes to travel from St. Anton/Kaltern to the Mendel Pass, where you can enjoy peace and quiet. Conversely, our guests can use it to visit the wine village of Kaltern.
