About this house rental
Unwind on Portugal’s Silver Coast, just a 1-hour drive from Lisbon! Close to charming towns like Óbidos, Caldas da Rainha, and Alcobaça. Go surfing in Baleal or Paredes da Vitória. The beach towns of São Martinho (2 km), Nazaré (9 km), and Foz do Arelho (17 km) are just around the corner.
The cottage has two spacious bedrooms/studios with stunning views of the valley. The garden is enormous. It’s just a few minutes’ walk to the cliff with amazing ocean views. Bicycles and surfboards are available for rent upon request.
The space
Ideal for a family vacation, golfers, kite/wing surfers, hikers, a work retreat—alone or with a colleague (fiber-optic internet!), mountain bikers, golfers, and lovers of the wonderful Portuguese people and culture! Thanks to the Atlantic climate, it’s never too hot and never too cold.
This cottage was exactly what we’d been looking for for years! Set in a green area on a quiet little road, yet within walking or biking distance of a lively seaside town: São Martinho do Porto. Known for its unique bay where children can swim safely.
Adjacent to São Martinho is Serra dos Mangues. A small village with a typical Portuguese restaurant and (coffee) bar, as well as a bakery. Our house is located on the outskirts of this village. You can’t see the sea, but you can hear it. You almost never hear a dog bark.
From the bedrooms and the garden, you look out over the valley toward Caldas. And no one can see inside. If you take the gravel road to the left, you’ll be at the cliffs within a 5-minute walk. To the right, you look out over Praia Salgado and can see Nazaré in the distance. To the left is Praia da Gralha, with the occasional paraglider.
The living room is cozy and the bedrooms are very spacious. There’s a kitchen with a high-quality espresso machine and a coffee grinder. You’ll need to wash dishes by hand.
The garden is huge (2,000 m²). The front and side gardens are well-landscaped, and the backyard was recently redesigned (January 2025). There are several patios and cozy spots on the lawn for sitting, playing beach ball, volleyball, bocce, etc. There’s a refreshing outdoor shower to cool off. Or you can relax and read a book in the hammock.
If desired, our 3 mountain bikes and surfboards are available for rent for the entire stay. You’re also welcome to use the washing machine.
Sometimes in the summer, a sea fog hangs over the coastal area in the morning. In that case, it’s wonderful to head to a small town inland where the sun is shining. Or it’s ideal weather for a long hike or mountain bike ride.
