Region: A E Housman once wrote that Shropshire was “the quietest place under the sun” and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.
Town: Weston Rhyn is a charming village close to the Welsh border, nestled in the Shropshire countryside. It offers a peaceful retreat with plenty to explore. The village is home to St. John’s Church, a striking 19th-century building, and a selection of local pubs where visitors can enjoy a warm welcome. Just a short walk away, the stunning Chirk Aqueduct and Viaduct, designed by Thomas Telford, provide breathtaking views over the Ceiriog Valley. The magnificent Chirk Castle, a National Trust property with beautiful gardens and woodlands, is a must-visit for history enthusiasts. Nearby, the town of Oswestry offers independent shops, cafés, and the popular Oswestry Hillfort, an Iron Age site with panoramic views. Guests staying in Weston Rhyn can pick up essentials at the local village shop or head to Oswestry for larger supermarkets, including Sainsbury’s and Morrisons, ensuring they have everything they need for a comfortable stay.
