I stayed at Belmount Ella Hotel for one night. The main highlight of this property is the excellent natural view, which can be enjoyed both from the restaurant area and from the room itself. The valley view is genuinely beautiful and is the hotel’s strongest selling point. However, apart from the view, the stay felt significantly overpriced. I paid USD *** per night including breakfast, which was not justified by what was offered. Breakfast options were very limited—only eggs, fruits, bread, and butter—far below expectations for the price. The room was average. The bed was not comfortable, and the pillows were extremely large and firm, causing neck pain. I had to sleep without a pillow. The bathroom was okay, but basic amenities were missing: no dental kit, no hand wash, and although the water heater was working, the hot water temperature was inadequate. The rooms are designed as transparent cabins to maximize the view, which sounds good in theory but comes with a major downside. Privacy requires drawing the curtains, and the curtains provided are not blackout. As a result, daylight entered the room early in the morning, making it impossible to sleep after sunrise (around 6:30 am). The staff were polite, well-behaved, and helpful, which I appreciated. The restaurant menu is limited, but the food tasted good and was nicely presented. Since the hotel is located on top of a valley/forest area, insects and mosquitoes are to be expected. Mosquitoes were manageable as we carried repellent, wore full-length clothing, and the room also had a mosquito repellent machine. One disappointing experience at checkout was related to payment. Agoda mentioned paying *** at checkout, but the staff refused to accept USD 1 notes, claiming they are not accepted by Sri Lankan exchanges. Additionally, the remaining *** was converted at around ***, even though the day’s rate was closer to *** which felt unfair and poorly handled. The hotel is about 10–15 minutes’ walk from Ella town, involving moderate hiking and slopes. Anyone with mobility issues will need a tuk-tuk. Overall, this is a one-time stay mainly for people who prioritize scenic views and nature. The view is worth seeing, but the price should realistically be in the USD *** range, not over ***.
