The Howler Jungle House and Cabanas

This property is where a tree house and screened in porch meet. The property itself is very lush and well maintained however the road to get in requires a heavy duty vehicle. I thought I filtered in the bookings app to include homes that have AC, this home does NOT have AC so read the fine print. It does have fans but if you are a cold sleeper this property may not be for you. The pool was awesome and much needed in the humid weather. Fully equipped kitchen and the views of the river/wildlife is priceless

The screens had a lot of rips in them resulting in waking up to being covered in mosquito bites. Even with the fans it was very warm and you are basically sweating the whole time. Lots of insects outside too d/t stagnant pond below the house - bring bug spray!! The shower was also placed in the front of the house by a window with no shades making for very little privacy. Have the host send the pin of the property. Google Maps takes you to a different address and the signage for the house is poor especially at night. Rustic but very clean family suite. We loved that it was so peaceful. Our back porch looked out, through the jungle, onto a quiet section of the Belize River in Burrell Boom. Shanna was an amazing hostess and her whole family is so sweet, including her father. This property has a local troupe of howler monkeys, too, that sit in the tree out front, so you will likely see them. They also have a canoe and kayak that would have been amazing to use on the river if he hadn’t been so busy sightseeing every day. The property is enclosed by screens with big hammocks on three full sides. The two sides are covered. This place was great for sightseeing and I would totally recommend hiring their tour company if you want to see anything of archeological interest—they are, literally, connected to the best in the industry here. However, the cabin would be perfect for writing (fast wifi) or just relaxing with a book. Keep in mind that it is in the jungle, so there are some insects around but that is to be expected. We did not have any trouble with mosquitoes inside, however.

The shower in the family suite has a window you can see out to the front and it only comes up about waist high. We solved the problem by hanging a towel over the window, but something to keep in mind.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Howler Jungle House and Cabanas it did not disappoint. The home itself is incredibly unique, with so many thoughtful features that made the experience special, from the hammocks to the stunning views of the river and surrounding jungle. One of the highlights was the monkeys; they were amazing to watch, and even the howling at 3 am turned into a memorable (and surprisingly cool!) part of the experience. The property had so much to offer, including the lovely little pool and access to canoes and bikes, which made it easy to explore and enjoy the area. What really stood out, though, was the staff. They were incredibly kind, supportive, and made everything feel easy and welcoming. Overall, a truly special place to stay we’d absolutely come back.
