Dar Hajra, which has been featured in many interior design magazines and travel articles, is tucked away in a forest above the undiscovered “white village” of Montecorto, near Ronda.
From the villa’s rocky perch—it’s the highest house in the village—you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the Grazalema mountains. A path flanked by rosemary, lavender, and honeysuckle leads up to the house: it looks traditional enough from the outside, but inside, a big surprise awaits. The mountain has been woven into the fabric of the building, and the rock adds a striking decorative element: Dar Hajra means “House of Rocks.”
A pyramid-shaped atrium serves as the visual focal point around which the open-plan living/dining area revolves. Three enormous windows open onto the terrace and the infinity pool, whose waters seem to merge with the sky. The living room, kitchen/dining area, and study form one large open space; there is a spacious master bedroom, an extraordinary bathroom, and hundreds of books, CDs, and paintings.
The house has broadband internet and an iMac computer. Upstairs is a second bedroom, perched like an eagle’s nest on the third floor of the house. It has north- and south-facing windows that catch the summer breeze—a great spot for a nap with a view.
A discreet housekeeper cleans and tidies up every day (unless you’d prefer she not come).
