Gites de la Vergne

Gîtes de la Vergne is one of those places that quietly gets under your skin. Set among the rolling hills of this part of France, the property looks out across countryside that seems almost untouched by urgency. From the pool, the view runs away into fields, trees and distant ridgelines, the kind of landscape that makes you instinctively slow down. At night, it becomes something else entirely. There is virtually no light pollution here. Sitting outside beside the gîte that was our home for three nights, the sky seemed impossibly large. Stars appeared in numbers I had almost forgotten existed. It is the sort of place where you can sit for hours with a glass of wine, say very little, and somehow feel that nothing is missing. The gîte itself is exceptionally clean, modern and beautifully maintained, yet still manages to feel unmistakably French and rural. Goats, chickens and wildlife share the landscape with you, and the whole place moves to a rhythm that feels wonderfully detached from the rest of the world. That mattered to me. My own life is characterised by movement. Airports. Hotels. Meetings. Deals. Telephone calls at ridiculous hours. Constant travel between countries and the peculiar pressure of always needing to be somewhere else. For three days, I did not need to be anywhere else. Gîtes de la Vergne became the final chapter of my break and, unexpectedly, perhaps the most important part of it. It reminded me that rest is not simply the absence of work. Sometimes it is sitting beneath a dark French sky, hearing almost nothing, and realising how rarely you allow yourself to do exactly that. My only regret is that we did not stay longer. Fin and JL are exceptional hosts, but more importantly they have created something with soul. This is clearly not a property assembled simply to accommodate visitors. It has been shaped with vision, patience, care and love. And while it feels beautifully removed from everything, it really is not.

Our arrival was warmly welcomed by Fin, LJ and the farm animals. Spacious gite, comfortable and clean set in large grounds. There is a lovely view of the surroundings with a small lake. The swimming pool was much appreciated by us and our grandchildren. Nicely equipped exercise and games rooms are also available. Our dog appreciated exploring the grounds. Recommended for a stop over or for a longer calm stay in the countryside.

Fin and LJ are super hosts. The gite is a little piece of French paradise. Its setting is amazing, the animals are super cute. The cockerel strutting his stuff looking after his hens.
