About this apartment rental
We are new on VRBO, but have been renting on another rental platform for 4 years with an overall rating of 4.98 stars ( we have two rentals). This rental unit has a rating of 5 stars on the other platform.
Once the garage of a well-known Volkswagen mechanic, immortalized in a poem entitled "What It’s Like to Live in Ithaca, NY" by Dick Lourie, our converted 2 bedroom, 1 bath apartment is perfect for your Finger Lakes getaway. We are located on a quiet road close to Cayuga Lake, Downtown Ithaca, Cornell University, Ithaca College, Waterfalls, and Wineries. We are also convenient to Cayuga Medical Center, Trumansburg, Watkins Glen and Seneca Lake. For you golfers, we are located across the road from Hillendale Golf Course!
This 2 bedroom/1 bathroom apartment has a private entrance with keyless entry and covered parking (a plus when it rains or snows!). The apartment has only one step into the unit, the unit is entirely on one level once inside. Enjoy the full kitchen, in unit washer and dryer, high-speed Wi-Fi, and Smart TV for you to connect to your streaming services. The unit offers a queen bed in the main bedroom and a full bed in the second bedroom, as well as cozy living room with a futon for extra comfort and an additional sleeping space. A portable AC unit is provided in the summer, set up in the living area. Please note for the bedrooms to be cooled the doors must be left open. There are also ceiling fans in the living area and main bedroom and a box fan for the second bedroom to keep you cool in the summer (we generally have cool evenings). The bathroom features a bathtub/shower and a hair dryer for your convenience. Many of the furnishings are upcycled from items from local restore stores, college sales, and "free" finds.
Outside there's an outdoor seating area with a table and chairs for the exclusive use of our guests. Enjoy the quiet that surrounds you as listen to the birds while watching rabbits hop by and the deer that are often passing by the yard.
One thing to note - We are on well water, so there may be a sulfur smell to it (common in this area). The smell usually dissipates after the water has been run for a bit. It is perfectly safe to use and drink. We do have a Brita filter pitcher in the apartment for those who prefer filtered water.

This is the second time we've stayed here. It is very clean, has lots of space and the hosts are very responsive. It is the perfect location for us when we visit family in Ithaca and Trumansburg.

The external photo of the two apartments created some ambivalence upon booking it. However, the inside photos offset the external pictures. The owners’ welcoming emails prior to our arriving was reassuring. Upon arriving were additional welcoming treats and card. Soon after arriving the owners returned to their nearby home and greeted us in the driveway. We learned they had previously lived in our state and shopped at a fresh fruit and vegetable store in our town. The apartment was small but very adequate. The unique, creative use of recycled objects into picture frames, tables, cabinet, bed frames and head boards was appreciated. The incorporation of the Old Volks Place theme throughout was also quirky but appreciated. My nephew who grew up in Ithaca and who was familiar with the former Volks repair place was happy to learn of its continued legacy and the coincidence of our renting it as an apartment. If we return to the area, we will certainly consider returning to this rental. RussellWestminster, MD

I gave up on reviews that say how clean a property was. This rental was truly clean! The surroundings were not pleasant (yet properties in February in New York are all pretty war torn). There were only two of us who stayed this trip and the two bedrooms were nice, however, the living room area only had seating for 3 or a very close together seating for 4. The hosts went out of their way to try to make everything convenient and pleasant.
