UMI is located in a really cool part of Otaru with some more counter-cultural elements than the touristy end of town. There are unique shops, cafes, bars, event spaces and street art. It's a 10-15 minute walk through the covered Sun Mall towards the attractions at Sushiyadori street and Sakaimachihondori street, or the Otaru canal. It is an excellent base for accessing 3 snow resorts (Kiroro, Kokusai, and Asarigawaonsen) while staying in a real Japanese town rather than in a resort hotel. The owners are very cool people with excellent hospitality. The rooms are simple but comfortable with nice furniture and a stylish blend of old semi-industrial architecture converted with modern materials. Note that there are 2 units available at UMI, and the pictures on the listing show both of them, but you will only get one when you book. Our unit was a long open plan space with 3 single beds at one end, the entryway and bathroom in the middle, and the living room with windows to the street at the other end. I believe the other unit is similar.

The only downside of UMI is that the staircase from the street up to the unit is very steep and narrow. You have to be careful going up and down, especially with luggage or bags. But if you are careful it's no problem.

Staff was easy and prompt with communication, he spoke English proficiency which made things efficient

ありません。しかし宿泊した時は室温は快適でしたがエアコンは付けて頂いた方が安心かもしれません。トイレの換気扇も出来れば欲しいです。
