Usagi house is a 2 room house up in the hills of Teshima, it is connected to the hostess, Emi, house. Its location is in a small village surrounded by woods and agriculture. In Teshima there is only one taxi so the only way to get there is either by foot or by the only bus that loops around the island during the day. The house used to be Emi’s parents’ house. It is an authentic house on this beautiful island. Well equipped, and clean. We loved the bedroom, with very comfortable futons on a tatami floor and screen doors. There are a shower/tub and a small toilet, which has an ecological method of flushing. The house is part of this complex, where Emi lives with her spouse and a cute little boy, so guests are asked to keep quiet after 22:00 pm. On additional payment guests can use a sauna located on a deck. The stairs to the sauna are steep but worthwhile the view. The first evening we could not use it because of mosquitoes but the second evening which was quite windy, Emi came to our place and suggested we could, and it was great! In addition, we also bought by request, breakfasts, as food logistics on the island can be quite complicated. We rented from Emi a pair of bicycles which were very helpful when moving around the island. We had a peaceful and great stay in this house. It is not fancy but very authentic and has a very good atmosphere. Emi is a wonderful host, very nice, kind and attentive.

The toilet is quite small.

Amazing location, lovely place with a traditional feel and warm helpful hosts. Staying at their place has been a highlight of our trip to Japan. I really recommend renting a bike (available from them) and cycling around the island to see the local art. Also, Emi’s food was so so delicious and wholesome! Finally we really loved their performance at a local theatre (a must see if you can!). There is a local fig farm that serves delicious noodles, 5 min walk. Teshima Art Museum is 10 min walk. The village is beautiful. Everyone is very welcoming. The views are amazing. Overall, a very memorable relaxing stay.
