A former British Army helicopter pilot who flew through the Troubles, and a New York Times journalist – both of whom went on to work for the UN – when these two decided to settle in a Wairarapa valley and open a lodge, the result was always going to be something special. Craig and Dawn took in our family of six, fed us exceptionally well every night – think beef short rib, BBQ leg of lamb, and a different dessert every evening – and had breakfast on the table at 7am sharp every morning without a murmur in readiness for our tennis tournament. They even welcomed our two Jack Russells without hesitation, which tells you everything about the spirit of the place. The house itself is a beautiful old manor in a picturesque valley, just a short fifteen minute drive from Masterton. The wood-fired outdoor spa was an absolute godsend for tired tennis players and their parents. Our final evening ended with marshmallows around the fire, which felt exactly right. People who have lived in Lebanon, Switzerland, Kenya and New York and chosen this as their next chapter bring a certain quality of welcome with them. Highly, highly recommend.

Everything about this stay was truly exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we felt genuinely welcomed, the hosts are incredibly warm, kind, and attentive in a way that is rare to experience. The house and the garden, feel like something out of a fairytale. Every corner is thoughtfully designed, full of charm, beauty, and a sense of calm that makes you instantly slow down and enjoy the moment. And as a special touch, they have two lovely dogs and a cat who make the whole experience even more heartwarming. We were lucky to spend our anniversary here, which made the entire experience even more meaningful. A special thank for the most delicious and thoughtfully prepared dinner, it was not only beautiful, but full of warmth and heart. This was more than just a stay, it was a memory we will carry with us for a lifetime. Thank you for everything. This place deserves far more than five stars.

Beautiful stay in a lovely historic house in the country. Very peaceful; great bedroom with comfortable large beds, beautiful & tasteful decor, large well appointed bathroom & cosy, large living area. Food for dinner was delicious, sharing dinner with hosts was insightful & entertaining, learning more about the house & area. Hope to return again, would definitely recommend staying here !
Nothing all good!

We loved the peaceful, beautiful atmosphere and felt welcomed by the owners Craig and Dawn who were so kind and a pleasure to be around. My daughters were especially enamoured with the lovely dogs! Our stay was so restful and we only wish we could have stayed for longer.
