Needed booking.com customer service to sort problem with host

We were pleased to receive an email confirming our booking of a Juniper Berry 2 bedroom apartment overlooking city centre, so was looking forward to being updated ref access to apartment. Sadly we were let down on the day of arrival as no information was received and despite me phoning and messaging the host we had no response. Due to this we contacted booking.com customer service who advised they would email host but if no response within 45minutes the booking would be cancelled which would have left the three of having to find somewhere at short notice. Fortunately within 20minutes of speaking to customer services we received an email from host with instruction of door code etc... Initially we were disappointed on arrival as instead of the 2 bedroom apartment we had booked and paid for on the ground floor we had been allocated 2 separate rooms on the second floor of the building with no lift and a windy staircase. Luckily for us we could manage these but would not have been suitable otherwise. On a more positive note each room did have shower/toilet. Both rooms were very clean with towels, shower gel, kettle, tea, coffee & milk provided. It is set in an ideal location near shops and restaurants. We all agreed we would use Juniper Berry again as the booking error did get rectified at the last minute and still gave us somewhere to stay that was clean and comfortable in a great location we just hope communication from the host improves.

The property had a broken arm chair, sofa bed was stained and poor quality. Could benefit from a curtain across the main door in 1 bedroom apartment. Studio could have a large bed because small double. Lack of tv was also missing.

Great location. Clean, but clearly no one checking the inventory.

Very central yet quiet location

One wine glass and three forks for four guests. A broken sofa. No soap in bathroom. Parking sign warning of £100 fine. Could never get through to the host for clarification and no response to my messages.

They cancelled the booking just before we were arriving in Southampton! We had to find somewhere else to stay which cost a lot more as booked on the day. Thankfully booking.com were great and refunded the price difference.

I could have gotten Same experience for lesser amount but it wasn’t too bad!

The amenities are really good , no TV though, kitchen , bathroom and room was clean though I was welcomed by a spider and I believe the sheets should be changed , they look old. Overall I give it a 7/10

Not too bad but I really hated that I couldn’t get through to the staffs and ended up on the wrong building and also had to pay over 26£ for parking

Worst place I’ve ever been. conditions were awful. Bugs all over the room. Kitchen was disgustingly dirty. When I then called the owner they ignored my messages and calls.

Location was amazing. Right next to West Quay and only 15 mins from train station.

When I booked we had 1 x One Bed Deluxe Apartment and 1 x 2 bed apartment with city view however instead we had 2 x 1 bed and 1 x Studio which meant one of our party had to stay on their own. This wasn’t communicated until I received the email confirming the door codes. The floors left our feet fairly black so didn’t feel like these had been cleaned and we found half a pot of opened sour cream in our fridge. A few little things that could have been better and don’t feel we got what we paid for in terms of the space.

Ok for a night

Great location, lovely building, affordable parking out the front if it's available.

The lack of windows makes the flat particularly hot on summer days and no fans or air con fitted. We left feeling like the above flats were being used as emergency accommodation with the smoking during the day and arguments we heard until 2am. Sofa bed practical but basic and not comfortable.

Overall, I am not happy with my stay.

I have to say the location is great. If you are going to stay only one night or if you are coming home only for sleep and don't care about the sunlight in the morning, then this flat might be okay :)

First of all, there was no soap in the bathroom. I messaged them the first night and asked them to bring the soap on the second day, however, I didn't get any answers from the customer service. I don't think guests should bring their own soap :) There was no shampoo in the property. Luckily I had my shampoo. The wifi was very poor and not stable. I struggled to use it. I messaged them about it and no one answered my help request. I came home from work the second evening, and the passcode to get in the flat was not valid, I didn't get in the flat first. Then I messaged the property customer service and they reset the passcode and I could get in. There was no clear instruction how to use the shower. It was really hard to understand how to use the shower by myself. I messaged the customer service, they said, 'please pull down the strap - right hand side by the door in the bathroom. Should works :)'. I don't think someone has to ask this question. Should have a clear instruction. No one can explore on their own that the strap is to activate it :) Some people use the strap to turn the light on in the bathroom. The flat smelled like a construction. This message is to the guests. There is no window in the bedroom. If you like to see sunshine in the morning, you shouldn't stay in this flat. Because existing windows in the flat don't help with the sunlight.

A wonderful stay in the heart of Southampton.

The location was fantastic a minutes walk from the West Quay shopping centre and restaurants. Located in a beautiful Tudor building in the castle wall area of the old town.

The property was super clean. We just could’ve done with a tea towel. And towels for the guest that was on the sofa bed. A television would have been good also.

Great location but expensive self catering property lacking basic items.

Lovely building in great location. Once door codes were supplied, easy access to property.

Host advised door code info would be sent around 9am, needed to contact them after 10.30 as still hadn't heard anything. Booked property for 2 adults, only 1 set of towels provided. Messaged host to request second set, but no response. Very uncomfortable thin mattress on sofa bed. No non slip feature in bath/shower. Very little crockery in kitchen, only 1 bowl, which was insufficient for self catering apartment. No tea towel.

Very poor! We paid a lot of money for something that was not as advertised.

Not what was advertised and paid for. We were told it had 2 double beds and a sofa bed. What was actually in the flat was 1 double bed, one single bed and a sofa bed. We were only given 2 towels for 5 people. All the towels and bedding for sofa bed were very damp. 1 mirror in entire flat (not ideal when 5 people are trying to get ready) Bin was broken. No hooks to hang clothes up. When we phoned for more towels, we were told they would drop more to us but didn’t.

Nice location but small airless bedrooms.

Nice location, spacious living space, and very clean. Prompt and helpful communication from host when we couldn’t get into the property.

Value for money on centre of town

The location was excellent and the accommodation was spacious and clean, light and airy.

The lack of cutlery caused a bit of a problem. For example there was only one fork in the cutlery drawer. It would have been handy to have a tea towel. Also, when using the shower the bottom of the bath was very slippery so a bath mat may help to ensure minimal risk of accident.

Met the needs for one night

Location was amazing for walking to town.

The shower was not great and there was very little air flow in our unit. The bedroom needs a fan for circulation. We tried to send messages but staff was difficult to get ahold of. Accommodating in the end but more clear communication would have made things better. Hand soap and toilet paper were barely enough for three. There was an old bed sheet left in the pull out sofa from previous guests and the pull out was pretty uncomfortable.

Nur die zentrale Lage und die Sauberkeit der Zimmer, allerdings der verdreckte Hoteleingang mit lauter Zigarettenkippen auf dem Boden und den Mülltonnen durch einen Hinterhof war abschreckend.

- Der Hackingversuch auf meine Kreditkarte ein paar Wochen vor der Anreise. Ich musste danach die CC sperren und eine Neue beantragen. - Die alternativlose Kündigung der gebuchten ebenerdigen 2-Zimmer (2 Betten) Ferienwohnung einen Tag vor der Anreise mit dem Angebot einer vergleichbaren Ersatzunterkunft im 1.Stock incl. dem Angebot unsere 6 schweren Koffer in den ersten Stock zu transportieren. Alles stellte sich als gelogen heraus, es war Niemand da um zu helfen, das Zimmer was Mini-Klein und am entferntesten in ganzen Gebäude gelegen, hatte nur ein knarzendes altes Doppelbett und war baulich beschädigt ( Badezimmertüre ging nicht zuzumachen, Heizung drohte von der Wand zu fallen). - Die Verlogenheit des Managements des Hotels: keine der Zusagen stimmte, alle Schuld wurde mehrmals auf Booking.com geschoben, das Verhalten der Managerin Barbara die anfing jegliche Verantwortung von sich zu weisen um sich mit mir als Kunde zu streiten. - Die Weigerung die im Voraus gezahlte Summe aufgrund der nicht erbrachten Leistung zu reduzieren.
