I am writing to provide detailed feedback on my recent stay at Nandwa Ivy Residence, which was deeply disappointing. After a grueling 23–26-hour journey from Michigan, we arrived in Kenya around 2 AM, already exhausted. The check-in process was unnecessarily stressful: we were required to sign a $5 waiver at the entrance before being granted access, and the digital entry code provided via Booking.com was incorrect. Jet-lagged and frustrated, we had to rely on Rita and Damaris to give us a working code. Once inside, the condition of the unit was subpar. The fan did not work, which—combined with a lack of air circulation—led to a severe mosquito problem during our nights. The cupboards emitted a heavy, damp/moldy odor; this was a serious concern as I have a known mold allergy, yet no air freshener was provided. Additionally, the propane gas had a foul smell and was completely depleted—we had purchased food to cook but were left unable to use the stove. The kitchen was disorganized, with pots scattered across the stove rather than stored properly, and no hand soap was supplied in the washroom. Our attempts to resolve issues were also met with poor service. We scheduled a maintenance appointment for July 26 between 8 AM and 10 AM, but the problems remained unaddressed. On that very same day, the internet went out for the entire duration without any prior warning or communication. Due to the cumulative inconvenience—including the disrupted check-in, broken amenities, unresolved maintenance, and unhygienic conditions—we decided to check out one night early, departing on the night of August 4. Overall, this experience has left me questioning the property's ratings. While expectations may differ across regions, basic functionality, cleanliness, and proactive communication are universal essentials that were entirely missing during our stay.
