EDELWEISS VILLAGE

Haesler Jr. is one of six historic Swiss chalets spread throughout Edelweiss Village, a 50-acre mountainside property overlooking Golden.

Each chalet is a standalone building with generous space between neighbours, creating a sense of privacy that is difficult to find at traditional hotels, resorts, or condo complexes.

Guests have access to:

• Walking trails throughout the property
• Traditional wood-burning sauna
• Forested green space
• Incredible mountain and valley views

Blue herons are frequently spotted throughout the village and often nest in the trees surrounding the property.

Travelling with a larger group? Multiple chalets can be booked together for weddings, retreats, family gatherings, and special events.

ABOUT GOLDEN

Golden offers the scenery of the Canadian Rockies without the crowds of larger resort towns.

Surrounded by mountains, rivers, and national parks, it offers easy access to incredible outdoor experiences year-round.

Before your arrival, we'll send our local guide featuring our favourite restaurants, coffee shops, hikes, scenic drives, and seasonal activities. We're also happy to help connect guests with trusted local partners for guided adventures and experiences during their stay.

THE LEGACY OF CHRISTIAN HAESLER JR.

Christian Haesler Jr. was one of the pioneering Swiss mountain guides recruited by the Canadian Pacific Railway to help introduce visitors to the mountains surrounding Golden.

His passion for the outdoors and contribution to mountaineering helped establish the region as one of North America's great mountain destinations.

Today, guests can stay in his former home, thoughtfully restored to blend its 1911 origins with modern chalet comforts.

Please note that construction is in progress on the property and may continue through the end of September. All efforts will be made to keep noise between 8 AM and 8 PM.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:
• Free parking is directly at the chalet. Additional parking is available throughout the village.
• Pets are not allowed.
• Smoking is strictly prohibited.
• Self check-in is available via secure door code.
• The chalet is multi-level on a hillside with stairs — guests with limited mobility should plan accordingly.
• Golden's downtown core is less than 5 km away.
• The sauna is a shared village amenity and requires time to heat before use.
• This is not a ski-in/ski-out property.
• Please note that the fire pit is currently unavailable — outdoor fires are not permitted until further notice.

RESTORATION UPDATE

Edelweiss Village was acquired in 2024 with a commitment to preserving and restoring this remarkable piece of Golden's history. While restoration work continues in select areas of the property, guest stays are rarely impacted.

We were one of the first to stay in this home, and although it truly is redesigned in a beautiful way with elegant details, the home itself was not as functional as a Vrbo ought to be. Many common household items were missing, like tongs for the grill, normal size cutting boards (there were only 2 small decorative ones), and a sponge for washing dishes. There were no extra paper towels, no spices at all (we left some, so hopefully the next guests will find that useful), and the body wash container was completely out of body wash. The water dispenser near the kitchen ran out almost immediately. I also thought it was important to pass along that this particular home (#3) looks down on a busy 4-way stop light, so you are not necessarily tucked into the mountains. Kicking Horse is visible from the home, though, and those mountains are a beautiful view. The location itself is really convenient. The house is close to the road and downtown Golden.
